Robert D. ‘Bob’ McCracken

GOSHEN TOWNSHIP -- Robert David McCracken, 74, of Goshen Township, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, leaving behind a rich legacy of hard work, dedication, and deep family commitment.

Born in Salem, Ohio, to Robert and Lorena (Batzli) McCracken, Robert was a proud, lifelong local resident. Shaped by his upbringing, he developed an enduring work ethic and a love for helping others. He graduated from West Branch High School with the Class of 1970. For much of his working life, Robert was a familiar and trusted face across the region. A dedicated tow truck driver known for answering the call no matter the hour or the weather, he took immense pride in owning and operating his own local Salem towing business, Bob's Chamois House and Towing, until his well-earned retirement.

Beyond his business, Robert served the people of his hometown. He gave generously of his time and energy to his community, serving faithfully as a Goshen Township Trustee for several years. Outside of work, Robert was happiest when he was getting his hands dirty and staying active. A true country boy at heart, he found joy in farm work, attending tractor pulls, and spending countless hours tackling projects around his home.

But above all his hobbies and professional achievements, Robert cherished his family. He shared many wonderful, loving years with his devoted wife, Louise Ann McCracken, building a home filled with laughter and mutual support. He is also survived by many in-laws, extended family members, and three nieces, one of which thought of him as a dad, and two great nieces.

Those who knew and loved Robert will fondly remember him as a devoted husband, community member, and a wonderful man blessed with a quick wit, a sharp sense of humor, and a heart of gold. Robert leaves behind a large circle of family and friends who will miss him dearly. Though he has driven his final route, his legacy of strength, warmth, and selflessness lives on. His memory will stay with all of us who had the honor of knowing him.

Family and friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home, 1014 E. State St., Salem. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, 2026, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Beloit.

Memorial contributions may be made in Bob's name to the Goshen Butler Fund, PO Box 33, Damascus, OH 44619.
