CORTLAND - Bertha S. "Sis" Stewart, 93, went to her heavenly home Friday, Oct. 30, 2026. She was born March 17, 1933, in Clearfield City, Pa., daughter of the late Joseph and Ann (Green) Galchick.
Bertha was a former Salem resident graduating from Salem High School in 1951. She worked as a stitcher for 20 years at The Church Budget Envelope Company. Bertha had been a member of the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour.
Her husband, John "Jack" D. Stewart, whom she married May 9, 1952, preceded her in death March 10, 2006.
She leaves behind one son, Michael J. (Renee) Stewart Sr. of Cortland; one grandson, Michael J. Stewart Jr. of Cortland; five sisters, Helen Ellis of Salem, Patti Lottman of Salem, Linda (Mike) DeRienzo of Strongsville, Kathy (Kevin) Rhodes of Westerville, and Terri (Roy) Paparodis of Salem.
Besides her parents and husband, two sisters, Doris Miller and Audie Syppko; four brothers, Joseph Galchick, Charles Galchick, William Galchick and Paul Galchick also preceded her in death.
Friends and family will be received from 2 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor James Berkebile officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery.
