Salem voters should pass school levy

To the editor:

I am asking the voters in the Salem City School District to please vote yes for the school levy this Tuesday. Our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren deserve the same opportunity that was given to us by our community forefathers.

If you look at the new technology and the surrounding atmosphere that is not present today in our older buildings in this school district, you will be amazed at how much better we can do for our children. Our schools can try to address some of the shortcomings of our older buildings but the reality is that they cannot achieve the results as expected of schools built for today’s and tomorrow’s needs.

The generation that invested in building the current structures realized the need to pay it forward. Surely they faced some of the same economic and social constraints that we face today. Yet they recognized that investing in the future of the youth of our community is an investment in the community itself. They would have seized the opportunity to receive 64 cents on each dollar invested. Thank you for voting yes on Tuesday.
