Election season means ‘silly season’

To the editor:

Well it is easy to see that we are back into the “silly season” as we are receiving requests in the mail for donations for campaigns from politicians who cannot even file for at least another year, and then we get fliers in the mail, from who knows whom, as there is no disclaimer or signature or mailing address on the flier and that is understandable as the flier is so misleading as to the Salem City School District Levy, that nobody wants to acknowledge being the author.

On the other hand, we have a unique opportunity to increase the security for our school children and to upgrade the environment of their education by agreeing to pay an $8 per month real estate tax on a $100,000 home.

In addition, the State of Ohio is finally giving the Salem taxpayers $38,000,000 of their own money back and the Salem Community Foundation is kicking in an additional $10,000,000 into the pot. Salem is one of only five school districts in the State of Ohio being given the opportunity to replace a 96-year-old building with a building that will last for decades.

Contrary to the anonymous flier, the Salem High School will not be replaced and the Southeast Elementary School is to be reutilized.

Let’s take advantage of a unique opportunity and surround our school children with the SECURITY and ENVIRONMENT they deserve. Please consider voting yes for the Salem City School District Levy.

Geoff and Kim Goll,

Salem
