What happened to common sense?
To the editor:
A few years ago nobody would have tolerated anyone who belittled a war hero or mocked a handicapped journalist. No one would have voted for someone who bragged about sexually assaulting women, then called his victims liars. Common sense says not to trust someone who’s had multiple extra-marital affairs and paid prom starts for their silence. Or someone who stole documents from the White House and shared classified nuclear information with foreign leaders.
Common sense says that only someone who is mercilessly cruel would laugh about an 82-year-old man being bludgeoned nearly to death by an attacker with hammer. But he himself has intimidated, threatened and ruined the lives of poll workers, prosecutors, judges, court clerks and anyone who disagrees with him. He wanted his vice-president to be hung, called for the execution of generals and belittled our wounded military heroes.
Common sense would say that when a president refuses to leave office because he is so angry that he lost an election, something is wrong. As he still perpetuates the biggest lie in American history, despite the fact that 60 courts found that there was no election fraud, common sense would questions his grip on reality. When someone incites an insurrection, goads a violent mob of his supporters to do his bidding (who are now in jail after trashing the Capitol and injury 114 police officers), common sense would say this man is not a fit nominee for our party. Common sense says there are other good Republicans candidates who are pro-life, who hold Republicans values.
Common sense says that someone who spews hatred, cruelty, violent rhetoric and lies, echoing the voice of dictators, is going to lose again.
