Ohio stands to benefit from affordable fuel

To the editor:

Gas prices are on the minds of a majority of Ohioans in one way or another. The number you see at the pump can impact everything from your commute to work, to a vacation, and ultimately your family’s budget. However, many people may not know what all controls those gas prices and why Ohio’s role in global oil production leads to lower pump prices.

Let’s look at our neighbors in Pennsylvania. According to AAA’s most recent fuel report, Ohio’s gas prices sit at an average of $2.81 a gallon. Just east of us, those heading to the pump can expect to pay 50 cents a gallon more! But it’s not just Pennsylvania, the average price for gas nationally is also more expensive than what we pay here in the Buckeye State.

As the U.S. Energy Information Administration underscores there is a clear connection between lower pump prices and global crude oil prices. Anticipating a record-breaking year in oil production, Ohio stands to benefit not only from affordable fuel but also to contribute significantly to the global energy landscape.
