Please, Lisbon Council, drop any further consideration of passing legislation for a single trash hauler in the village. I suspect a majority of residents are opposed to the idea, preferring to choose their own hauler and respecting the tradition of free enterprise among competing companies.
I greatly respect and admire our hard-working mayor and have no "beef" with any council member, despite whether I voted for him or her. They make decisions based on what they feel is best.
Proponents say having a single hauler will mean all trash bins will be put out and removed simultaneously, making for a better look. Unless a single hauler uses more than one truck, I cannot imagine our entire village could be covered in just one day. There may have to be alternating days and separated zones. Still, sporadic placement of bins on the curb lawn with multiple haulers (as it is now) makes the bins virtually unnoticeable. It would be more unsightly if all residents had their bins out on the same day or even in designated zones on different days. Proponents of a single hauler also argue the weight of trucks significantly damages roadways, yet deterioration is also heavily influenced by initial construction methods, thin sub-base designs, and local freeze-thaw weather cycles rather than traffic load alone.
Please drop this idea.
