Opposition to annexation and urging community action

To the editor: I am writing to voice my strong opposition to the proposed annexation of our neighborhood from Perry Township into the city of Salem. It has come to my attention that the city is claiming the right to annex our properties based on a supposed deed restriction. However, upon reviewing my own deed, I have found no such restriction, nor do I recall being informed about this possibility during the property closing process. To the editor: Norfolk Southern or East Palestine? I don’t know who I feel more sorry for! NFS or EP? NS has spent a lot of money in EP for wrecking its damaged train in our village and we have spend a lot of money trying to fix up our dirty belongings. To the editor: I attended the Salem - United Varsity Baseball game Thursday (May 11) at Salem’s impressive facility on F.E. Cope Drive. It was a beautiful night and the game was exciting. Salem won by a run. United, with a district enrollment about half that of Salem’s, put up a valiant effort. High school athletics, properly coached and supervised, teaches participants sportsmanship and character. The other night, Salem displayed little of either. This is Older Americans month that highlights the programming and systems we as a people created to support aging well. Applauds process used by trustees, commissioners

To the editor: I firmly believe in a landowner’s right to make decisions for their own property until those decisions lower their neighbor’s property values, destroy their neighbor’s quality of life and ability to sell their property if desired. The current process that the township trustees and the county commissioners are using to restrict or approve windmills and solar projects in townships protects landowner rights and citizens of our community, and I applaud them for their actions.
