Politically selective land of law and order?

To the editor: SCOFFLAW —The definition of Scofflaw is simply, “scoffing at the law.” If you haven’t heard of the word, you’re excused. The city of New York is credited with the creation of the word identifying those who violated the law with impunity. Cars parked illegally wore wheel locks when the cops were faster than the illegals, but the illegals often won. Thus, the word Scofflaw came into being. Judge Pirr referred to Title 18, Section 1507 of the U.S. Code in a TV interview recently. She was upset about the Justice Department not safeguarding the Justices of the ...

Strengthening buy America in Ohio

To the editor: America’s Great Lakes states are known for manufacturing. Mighty Ohio manufactures steel to electronic chips. 84.65 percent of Ohio’s manufacturers have under 100 employees, but equal 42.3 percent of Ohio’s manufacturing workforce, according to SBA’s Office of Advocacy. Though small, they fuel America’s pandemic recovery, and under President Biden, also our nation’s lowest unemployment since 1970. To strengthen American manufacturing, the Biden-Harris Administration has launched a whole-of-government initiative to enhance federal procurement and other ...

Humane Agent offers insight into year one

To the editor: Having recently passed the one year mark as the appointed Humane Agent for Columbiana County, I felt I should take a look back. It was a crazy year of learning and growing for myself and the Humane Society as a whole. Being born and raised in Columbiana County, I knew the need for an animal cruelty investigator in our area, which has been underserved for a very long time, so when the position was offered to me, I jumped at the chance. Since my official appointment a little over a year ago, we have taken in 542 animals as part of animal cruelty investigations. Not all ...

We can’t continue being a bandage society

To the editor: We live in a bandage society. What I mean by that is we throw a bandage on our issues or problems for a temporary fix with no real solutions for the issue or problem. Hoping that the issue or problem will just fade away. Are you tired of the bandage government? They put a bandage on it and hoping that will fix the issue or situation. Sure we can arm our educators in the school, What’s next? How about if we issue tactical gear to the teachers? Maybe that’ll help. The government wanting to throw more guns on a already heated situation is not the solution. I say ...

A big thank you to John Bobalik

To the editor: I am not in the practice of writing a “Dear John” letter but here is one that is very appreciative. The Columbiana County summer baseball program wrapped up, if not successful in terms of wins and losses for individual teams, certainly successful in terms of having many young women and men having the opportunity to play a great game, make new friends, learn respect, etc. There are many to thank for this: coaches and managers, scorekeepers, ground crews (see coaches and managers) and you, the fans. But one person who had a part of every game, no matter who played, ...
