EOAC has a fight on its hands

LISBON — Lisbon worked its way back into the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference title chase.
Sophomores Hunter Dailey and Tate Wallen scored career highs in leading the Blue Devils past Wellsville, 56-50, Friday night.
Dailey totaled 25 points and 12 rebounds, while Tate Wallen scored 10 points to provide a boost off the bench.
Trevor Siefke dished out 12 assists and Hunter Sturgeon five. Austin Dailey grabbed five rebounds.
There is a logjam near the top of the EOAC with Valley Christian at 5-0, United at 4-1 and Wellsville, Lisbon and Columbiana at 3-2.
The picture should become clearer on Tuesday as Wellsville hosts Valley and Lisbon entertains United.
Lisbon –shooting 57 percent from the field — led throughout, except for a brief spell in the third quarter when Wellsville took a 30-25 advantage. The Blue Devils rallied to go ahead 45-36 through three quarters.
Lisbon went ahead 50-38, but Wellsville came back to close the gap with 50-47 with 1:52 remaining.
The Blue Devils were 6-of-8 from the foul line in the final 1:12 to secure the victory.
Lisbon controlled the first half with Hunter Dailey scoring 13 of the Blue Devils’ first 15 points. The Blue Devils 17-9 on a Wallen layup with 4:12 left in the second quarter.
Wellsville rallied on six points by Jaxon Brewer and five by Isaiah Greathouse to close the gap to 21-20 at halftime.
It was close because of 16 Lisbon turnovers in the first half.
Brewer had a team-high 19 points for the Tigers. Gavin Kountz added 11 points and Josiah Santiago nine.
Wellsville won the junior varsity game, 50-45.
Dontay Wilcox scored 16 points and Tyrell Watkins 13 for the Tigers. Noah Minor led the Blue Devils with 10 points, followed by Tate Wallen and Alex Schreffler with nine apiece.

Carrollton 59, Salem 58
CARROLLTON — Caden Swiger’s shot at the buzzer did not go as Salem fell to Carrollton 59-58 in overtime on Friday in Eastern Buckeye Conference play.
Carrollton’s Jaxson Rinkes hit a bucket with 1.2 seconds to go in regulation to send it to the extra frame.
Rinkes had 15 to lead the winners.
Drew Weir had 16 for the Quakers with Cam Simpson scoring 13. Weir had 11 first-half points.
The Quakers fall to 2-7 and 1-3 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference and host Springfield Local today.
The game will mark the return of former Quaker coach Jeff Brink to John A. Cabas Gymnasium.
Carrollton won the jayvee portion, 53-48.
D.J. Kozar had 17 points for Salem.

COLUMBIANA — Nick Million tallied 13 points and four rebounds as Columbiana downed Leetonia 59-16 on Friday.
Maddox Brown added 10 points and six rebounds. Tony Kocanjer had six points and eight rebounds.
Columbiana is 4-5 and 3-2 in EOAC.
Leetonia was led by Andrew Hendricks’ eight points.
Columbiana won the jayvee game 46-33. Aaron Marcum scored 16 points for the Clippers. Seth Struharik added 12 points. CJ Faulkner had 12 points for Leetonia.
Columbiana hosts Heartland today. Leetonia hosts Southern Tuesday.

LOWELLVILLE — Sebring kept it close early but suffered a 56-25 loss to Lowellville on Friday in Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference play.
Kade Leasure had 12 points for the Trojans.
Lowellville is 7-2.
Sebring is at Kingsway Christian today.

CAMPBELL — Campbell Memorial looked like a contender for the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Gray Division title as it trimmed Crestview 71-41 on Friday.
The Red Devils are 9-1 and 5-1 in the league. Crestview fell to 3-8, 1-4.
Kirkland Miller and Jack Yerkey had 12 points each for the Rebels. Yerkey added eight rebounds and Miller had seven boards.
Anthony Cusick had 11 points as well.
Campell won the jayvee game, 58-26. Joey Carr scored eight points for the Rebels who are at Garfield on Tuesday.

BELOIT — West Branch kept on truckin’ in the Eastern Buckeye Conference as the Warriors stopped Minerva 48-39 on Friday.
West Branch is 8-0 and 4-0 in the EBC and hosts Marlington (8-1, 5-0) on Tuesday for the league lead.
Jaxon Hendershott sparked the winners with 21 points. Dru DeShields chipped in 12 points.
West Branch won the jayvee portion, 47-16.
