New England hosts Army-Navy
(AP) -- The Army-Navy game will be played in New England for the first time, the service academies announced as they revealed the five cities that will host the game over the next five years.
Next year's game will be played at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, home of the New England Patriots.
The 2024 game will be at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland, followed by M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore in 2025, the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, New Jersey, in 2026, and Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia in 2027.
Philly, the game's traditional home, has hosted 90 times and was previously announced as the host this year on Dec. 10.
"We are looking forward to the pageantry and tradition to be on display for the fans in these cities while providing an opportunity to support the Cadets and Midshipmen," Army athletic director Mike Buddie said.
Bowyer involved in fatal crash
LAKE OZARK, Mo. (AP) -- Former NASCAR driver and Fox Sports analyst Clint Bowyer struck and killed a pedestrian on a highway in southwest Missouri earlier this month, police said.
The crash occurred June 5 on an exit ramp off of U.S 54 near Osage Beach, Missouri, according to a crash report from Lake Ozark police.
Bowyer, a native of Emporia, Kansas, stopped immediately after the collision and called 911, police said. The woman, 47-year-old Mary Jane Simmons, of Camdenton, died at the scene.
The crash report says Bowyer showed no signs of impairment and provided a roadside blood sample that showed no trace of alcohol.
A crystalline substance was found with the woman's belongings and residents at a recreational vehicle park where she was staying said they believed she was under the influence of drugs, according to the police statement.
Rodon dominates Pirates
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Carlos Rodon walked off the mound and into the San Francisco Giants dugout after eight nearly spotless innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night prepared for a conversation about whether he'd get a chance at walking back onto the field for the ninth.
Earlier in his career, Rodon admits he might have dug in his heels and pleaded his case. Those days are over, the byproduct of wisdom gleaned from too many trips to the operating room.
So when San Francisco manager Gabe Kapler turned to closer Camilo Doval to get the final three outs, Rodon nodded his head and then watched the flamethrowing 24-year-old finish out a 2-0 victory that handed the surging Giants their sixth win in seven games.
A game of streaks
CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs became the first team in 23 years to stop a losing streak of 10 or more game while ending an opponent's winning streak of at least 10 games, beating the Braves 1-0 Friday to halt the Braves' 14-game run.
Rookie Christoper Morel hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, helping the Cubs stop a 10-game slide, their longest since 12 straight losses from last Aug. 5-16.
Atlanta's 14 consecutive wins were the most for the Braves since their post-1900 record of 15 from April 16 to May 2, 2000.
Morel drove in the game's only run against reliever A.J Minter after striking out in his first three at-bats.
Ray loses no-hitter in seventh
SEATTLE (AP) -- Mariners left-hander Robbie Ray lost a no-hit bid with two outs in the seventh inning against the Los Angeles Angels when he let a ground ball bounce off his glove.
Max Stassi hit a high chopper Friday night toward the mound that went right over Ray's head. The reigning AL Cy Young Award winner didn't jump, and the ball skipped off the top of his glove, giving Stassi time to beat out an infield single.
Ray immediately looked toward the outfield scoreboard to see the ruling from the official scorer. He smiled when Stassi was awarded a hit.
Ray had retired 18 straight hitters. He finished the seventh with 10 strikeouts and one walk, with Seattle ahead 8-0. The Mariners won 8-1 as the Angels finished with four hits.
