Wreaths race draws 47 runners
COLUMBIANA -- The Wreaths Across America 5k and 1-mile runs drew 47 runners to Firestone Park on Sunday. Top finishers included:

Clipper CC Invite set for Saturday
COLUMBIANA -- The 25th Clipper Cross Country Invitational will be held Saturday at the Ward Athletic Complex behind Columbiana High School.
High schools participating include defending boys champion Streetsboro, host Columbiana, Beaver Local, East Liverpool, East Liverpool Christian, East Palestine, Akron Kenmore-Garfield, Badger, Bellaire, Brookfield, Hubbard, Jackson-Milton, Mathews, Newton Falls, Springfield Local, Trailbazers Homeschool, Youngstown Urban Scholars and Warren JFK.
Bringing only middle school runners are Austintown, Boardman, Champion, Crestview and South Range.
Saturday's schedule includes open 5K and master race at 9 a.m., fifth- and sixth-grade 2K race at 10:15 a.m., middle school girls 3K race at 10:45 a.m., middle school boys 3K race at 11:15 a.m., high school girls 5K race at 11:45 a.m. and high school boys 5K race at 12:135 p.m.
Poland hosts night event
POLAND -- United will be among the teams competing in the Poland Glow In The Park Night Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.
Sixteen high schools are entered. West Branch will only run in the middle school races.
Action at Poland Township Park begins with the middle school girls race at 7:45 p.m., followed by the middle school boys at 8:15 p.m., high school girls at 8:45 p.m. and the high school boys at 9:25 p.m.
Boardman sweeps Mahoning meet
AUSTINTOWN -- Boardman repeated as the girls team champion and the Boardman boys made it a sweep at the Mahoning County Cross Country Meet on Wednesday.
Canfield senior Blake Baker topped the 100-runner boys field, covering the 3.1-mile course at Austintown Township Park in 16 minutes, 31.19 seconds.
Lowellville senior Sophia Yon was first in the 64-runner girls field in 19:55.66.
West Branch and South Range did not compete in the high school races.

Salem edges Beaver Local
SALEM -- Salem's girls tennis team bested Beaver Local 3-2 on Thursday.
Mya Harsh won a singles match for the Quakers, while the doubles teams of Hadley Carlisle-Memphis Haueter and Hensley Nicholson-Meadow Anderson also won for the Quakers.
West Branch closes out season
EAST PALESTINE --West Branch capped its regular season with a 5-0 win over East Palestine on Wednesday.
West Branch is 10-7 and will play in the sectional tournament on Oct. 3 at Wooster College.
East Palestine is 0-14.

Coach says he was forced to resign
BROOKLYN (AP) -- An Ohio high school football coach says he was forced to resign by his school district and intended no harm to opposing players after he and his team repeatedly used "Nazi" as a game call in a Sept. 22 match. In an interview with The Associated Press Thursday, former Brooklyn High School coach Tim McFarland said he never meant any offense by using the term and that it "didn't even occur" to him that it could be taken as antisemitic.
