AKRON -- United senior golfer Mati Zines is heading back to the state tournament with higher goals.
Zines was under par on the back nine Monday and took runner-up honors at the Division II girls district tournament at Good Park Golf Course.
Zines and Orrville senior Abby Ankenman both shot 2-over 73s in the 18-hole tournament with Ankenman winning in a playoff between the two sectional champions.
Ankenman, in her fourth district appearance, had par 3s on the 165-yard ninth hole all three times in the playoff with Zines getting a bogey on third playoff hole.
The top three teams and top three individuals not on a qualifying team advance to the Division II state tournament on Oct. 13-14 at Ohio State University's Gray Course.
Zines returns to state after finishing 11th last year.
She shot a 3-over 38 on the front nine Monday after a triple-bogey on No. 8. She rallied with a 1-under 35 on the back nine, which was the best in the 72-golfer field.
Ravenna Southeast junior Taylor Blazek claimed the third and final individual state berth with a 78, good for fourth-place overall.
Laurel senior Siena Maschke was third with a 76, but she advanced with her team. She finished 10th at state last year.
