Tigers eye state berth
MASSILLON -- The Springfield Local girls basketball team is closing in on a second straight trip to the state semifinals.
The Tigers (20-7) will play seventh-ranked Loudonville (25-2) in a Division IV regional final at 7 p.m. Saturday at Massillon Perry High School.
Springfield had losses to Crestview, South Range, Columbiana and Salem.
The Redbirds, who have won eight in a row, are led by senior Corri Vermilya, an Ashland University signee and a finalist for Ohio Ms. Basketball.
The winner advances to the state semifinals at 11 a.m. Thursday at the University of Dayton.
County All-Ohioans to be honored
LISBON -- Five All-Ohioans highlight the second class of the Columbiana County Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Bevo Francis (Wellsville), Chelsea Bowker (Crestview), Lana Corbisello (Southern), Dawn Marple (Lisbon) and Vicki Pullie (Wellsville) will be recognized at approximately 7:15 p.m. Sunday during the 37th Columbiana County Classic at Lisbon High School. The scholarship winners also will be honored.
The 37th Columbiana County Classic will includes six all-star games on Sunday, beginning with the junior high girls at noon, followed by the junior high boys at 1:30 p.m., the grades 9-11 girls at 3 p.m. and the grades 9-11 boys at 4:30 p.m.
The day will be highlighted by the traditional senior all-star games with the girls tipping off at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow at around 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and are only available at the door.

Leetonia HOF seeks nominations
LEETONIA -- The Leetonia Athletic Hall of Fame is accepting nominations for the Class of 2024. Induction of the new members will be held the weekend of Aug. 23-24.
Nomination forms are available at www.leetonia.k12.oh.us and the administration office. Deadline to nominate someone is May 31. Nomination forms should be mailed to Leetonia Athletic Hall of Fame, 450 Walnut St., Leetonia, OH 44431.
