Fitch pulls away from Salem

AUSTINTOWN — Rachel Spalding scored 21 points in leading Austintown Fitch past Salem, 58-37, Saturday.

After leading 13-12 in the first quarter, Fitch outscored the Quakers 45-25 the rest of the way.

Salem wrapped up the regular season at 10-12. Fitch improves to 10-11 heading into tonight’s regular-season finale at South Range.

Samantha Severn added 12 points, all in the second half, to the winners. Amiya Harris and Jeweliana Farmer had eight apiece,

Reese Davidson-Chuck topped the Quakers with nine points.

There was no junior varsity game.

Fitch will play at South Range tonight in the regular-season finale.

Salem will host Struthers in the sectional opener at 7 p.m. Feb. 15. Struthers lost to West Branch and Crestview this season.

West Branch 40, Girard 25

GIRARD — West Branch held Girard to seven points in the first half on the way to a 40-25 win Saturday.

The Warriors improve to 19-2, allowing more than 35 points in just two games.

Tallie Muniz led West Branch with 10 points. Mati Hawk scored nine points on three three-pointers. Audrey Eaton added seven points, Ellie Tucker six and Hallie Vie Burton four.

The Warriors led 18-7 at halftime and 29-19 through three quarters.

West Branch will close out the regular tonight by hosting Girard, beginning with a two-quarter junior varsity game at 6 p.m.

Girard, which is 10-10including a season-opening loss to Columbiana, will play at Poland tonight.

Columbiana 56, W. Reserve 44

BERLIN CENTER — The Columbiana girls finished off an undefeated regular season by finishing off Western Reserve, 56-44, Saturday.

The Clippers improve to 22-0 for their first unbeaten since 2017.

Ellie Venezia and Ava Heinrich led Columbiana with 16 and 14 points, respectively. Evy Rapp added nine points, Annah Clemmer eight and Megan Moser seven.

Columbiana took a 32-20 lead at halftime and was up nine points heading into the fourth quarter.

Western Reserve (14-6) got 13 points from Izzy Mauro, 12 from Kylee Ramsey. Giana Leone and Quincy Miller each had 8 points.

Columbiana will host Waynedale (11-11) in a sectional tournament opener at 7 p.m. Feb. 15.

Sebring 28, Leetonia 20

SEBRING — Sebring dropped Leetonia, 28-20, in girls basketball play Saturday.

Sebring improves to 5-12, while Leetonia drops to 2-18.
