Struharik’s 37 sparks Clippers

COLUMBIANA — Senior Seth Struharik and the Columbiana Clippers finished off a great weekend Saturday.

Struharik scored 37 points and had three assists as the Clippers rocketed past Lowellville, 76-64.

It came the day after Struharik scored 22 points — including the game winner from midcourt at the buzzer — in a 55-52 victory at Valley Christian — to force a two-way tie for first place in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.

Columbiana improves to 18-2 overall and 12-1 in the EOAC. The Clippers can clinch at least a share of the league title with a win at United on Tuesday.

Struharik wasn’t the only Clipper to have a big night. Junior Hunter Davanzo matched his career high with 16 points and seven rebounds. Junior Cooper Brown totaled 13 points, six rebounds, five assists and four blocks.

Struharik scored 27 points in the first half as the Clippers led 38-30.

Lowellville was led by Vinny Sullivan with 20 points and Drew Modelski 16.

Lowellville won the junior varsity game, 50-38, as Jayden Coon scored 22 points. Liam McElwain had nine points for the Clippers.

Heartland 77, Lisbon 47

COLUMBIANA — Heartland Christian exploded for 29 points in the third quarter to beat Lisbon, 77-47, Saturday.

Isaiah Matthews scored a game-high 20 points, followed by Collin Kalaher with 15. Both players hit four three-pointers and the Lions had 12 in all.

Heartland won its eighth in a row to improve to 14-4 on the season, including a 6-1 mark against Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference teams.

Lisbon moves to 11-9.

Blaine Barnes had a team-high 14 points. AJ Ramgeet added 10 points, while Luke Kraft grabbed 11 rebounds and Ashon Hinchliffe had seven rebounds.

Heartland also won the junior varsity game, 63-28. Alex Hamilton and Ryan Coy each scored 12 points for the Lions. Logan Sturgeon had 11 points for the Blue Devils.

Heartland will host Wood County in an OVAC Class 1A semifinal at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Lisbon will entertain Youngstown Urban Scholars on Feb. 15.

Leetonia 42, Sebring 32

SEBRING — Leetonia pulled away in the second half to beat Sebring, 42-32, Saturday.

Carson Brock and Dylan Brown each scored 11 points for the Bears. Dylan Johns added seven points.

After being tied 16-16 at halftime, Leetonia outscored Sebring 13-9 in the third quarter and 13-7 in the fourth quarter.

The Bears improve to 5-15, while Sebring drops to 2-17.

Both teams will play Tuesday as Leetonia hosts Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference co-leader Valley Christian and Sebring travels to Waterloo.
