Penn St. recruit blanks Rebels

COLUMBIANA –Penn State University recruit Gabby Gradishar threw a perfect game with 14 strikeouts as Champion downed Crestview 11-0 in six innings on Monday.

Gradishar threw 73 pitches and 55 for a strike.

Gradishar is 8-1 this season with 117 strikeouts, six walks and 22 hits allowed. She has only allowed two earned runs.

At the plate, Gradishar, who has a .609 batting average, walked four times.

Emma Snyder took the loss for the Rebels with two strikeouts and six walks in five innings.

Champion, ranked fourth in the state in the Div. V by the state’s softball coaches association, is 10-1 and 8-0 in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Gray Division and will host Crestview today.

Crestview dropped to 10-4 and 6-2 in the league.

ALLIANCE — Lily White’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh led Alliance to a 5-4 win over United on Monday.

For United, Chloe Angelo had two hits and an RBI. Grace Coffee had a double and two RBIs. Callie Koons added a double and an RBI.

Payten Kekel took the loss with one strikeout and two walks in an inning of relief.

United (13-2) hosts Columbiana today in a battle of Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference leaders.

LEETONIA — Columbiana’s Caitlynn Pleska had a home run and three RBIs in the Clippers’ 20-1 victory over Leetonia on Monday.

Kyla Hogan and Anna Yonker had doubles. Addison Brode had a hit and three RBIs, while Cameron Perkins had a hit and two RBIs.

Peyton Stoy got the win with eight strikeouts and four walks in five innings.

Columbiana (10-5 and 6-0 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference) travels to United for a battle of league-leaders today.

Leetonia is 0-8.

BASEBALL

East Palestine 0

TORONTO — Toronto scored eight runs in the first and cruised past East Palestine 10-0 in five innings on Monday in an OVAC Class 2A baseball tournament semifinal.

Caldwell beat Shadyside 1-0 in the other semifinal.

The championship is set for Friday.

East Palestine (8-4) hosts Lisbon today.

STRUTHERS –Youngstown Ursuline stacked 13 hits to down Columbiana 10-0 in six innings on Monday at Cene Park.

Max Conway had a double for the Clippers.

Reese Roush was the losing pitcher with a strikeout and three walks in 2/3 of an inning.

Columbiana is 2-3 and will host Leetonia on Wednesday.
