Fornsaglio got his start at United
SALEM — Two retired head coaches and one contributor will be inducted into the Quad-County Football Coaches Hall of Fame during the 46th Penn-Ohio Stateline Classic at Sebo Stadium on Thursday.
Former United coach Sam Fornsaglio and Springfield coach Sean Guerriero along with contributor Ed Slopek will join 20 others who previously were inducted.
Fornsaglio won 161 games as head coach from 1971-2003 (except for a four-year stint as an assistant at Bethany College). He started at United in 1971 before going on to Liberty, Monroeville, Cadiz, Wintersville, Indian Creek, Willoughby South and Claymont high schools. His teams won 11 conference championships, two regional championships and twice was named Ohio Coach of the Year, once at Cadiz and another at Indian Creek.
Guerriero had 133 wins in 18 seasons as head coach Springfield. He led the Tigers to two state runner-up finishes, three regional championships, nine playoff appearances and seven league championships. He is currently the Springfield athletic director.
Slopek, a native of Burgettstown, Pa., began a 31-year career in 1973 with Ace Reconditioning and Sales of Athletic Equipment. He worked with players and coaches from multiple generations providing equipment to football programs in northeastern and eastern Ohio.
