McAfee on his way to Pro Football Hall of Fame

CANTON — Pat McAfee and ESPN are bringing his popular daily show to Canton to kick off Football’s Greatest Weekend.

“The Pat McAfee Show” plan to broadcast from the front steps of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, beneath the iconic Rotunda dome, on Thursday, July 31, only a few hours before the National Football League kicks off its 106th season.

At 8 p.m., the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Chargers will meet in the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame Game.

McAfee’s show also serves as the official opening of Fan Fest ’25 — four days of free events and attractions on the Hall of Fame’s campus from game day through Sunday, Aug. 3

“When the Pro Football Hall of Fame began considering ways to open the new Fan Fest with a splash, the immediate thought was to bring ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ to Canton,” said Jim Porter, Hall of Fame president & CEO. “He couldn’t have been more open to the idea, and we are thrilled for football fans and the millions of fans of his show that this is coming together. What a way to kick off a new football season!”

McAfee was an All-American punter at the West Virginia University and played eight seasons in the NFL, all with the Indianapolis Colts.

“The Pat McAfee Show” airs from noon to 2 p.m. weekdays on ESPN. Show co-hosts include A.J. Hawk, “Boston” Connor Campbell, Ty Schmit and Anthony “Tone Digz” DiGuilio.

Jets’ Fields dislocates toe

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields has a dislocated toe on his right foot and will be evaluated by the team on a daily basis.

The team announced the diagnosis a few hours after Fields limped off the practice field Thursday morning and was carted into the facility. It eased some initial concerns that the quarterback, in his first season with the Jets, could miss significant practice time.

Fields threw an incomplete pass to Jeremy Ruckert on his fifth play of team drills when he went down. The quarterback sat on the grass for a few moments before getting up and limping to the sideline while helped by a trainer.

“I know it was a quick throw, so I’m assuming someone stepped on his toe,” coach Aaron Glenn said after the Jets’ second practice of training camp. “It had to be because of the nature of the call that we had as far as offensive play call. I want to look at the tape and be sure.”

Svensson shoots opening-round 60

BLAINE, Minn. (AP) — Adam Svensson made a 48-foot eagle putt on the closing hole to complete an 11-under 60 on Thursday that gave him a two-shot lead over Sam Stevens and Thorbjorn Olesen after one round of the 3M Open.

Svensson also made nine birdies and did not drop a shot in the lowest round in the tournament’s seven-year history. He tied the TPC Twin Cities course record set by Paul Goydos at the 2017 3M Championship on the PGA Tour Champions.

Chris Gotterup, who finished third at last week’s British Open and won the Scottish Open two weeks ago, was three shots back along with Chad Ramey and Matti Schmid. Zac Blair, Chris Kirk, Jake Knapp and Brendan Valdes were another shot back, and Rickie Fowler and Emiliano Grillo were among those at 6 under.

Dolphins’ OL remains stable

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Bayron Matos remained under observation at the Ryder Trauma Care Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital on Thursday, one day after he was transported there by helicopter from training camp with an undisclosed injury.

The Dolphins said in a statement that Matos “has movement in all extremities and is in stable condition,” but they did not provide any other details of his injury. The team also did not say how long Matos would be under the care of doctors.

“It’s a really heartbreaking part of the game,” fellow Dolphins offensive lineman Austin Jackson said of the injury.

Starting at $2.99/week.
