Warriors lose to Marlington
BELOIT — The West Branch Warriors lost to Marlington, 24-26-25-21, 30-28, 25-12, Thursday.
Freshman Aislyn Ring led the Warriors with 11 points, two aces, 10 assists and 10 digs.
Kendyll Kaley collected nine points, five aces, four kills and 10 digs; Madi Hoopes seven points, 11 kills, eight blocks and 15 digs; Audrey Ring eight kills, three assists, 10 blocks, and 7 digs; and Abigail Janosik 10 kills and five digs.
Marlington also won the junior varsity match, 25-13, 25-121.
West Branch will host Alliance at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Guardians top Mariners
CLEVELAND (AP) — Brayan Rocchio singled in Nolan Jones with the tying run, then scored on Steven Kwan’s sacrifice fly in the ninth inning in the Cleveland Guardians’ 5-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Friday night.
Jones led off the ninth with a double and came around on Rocchio’s soft hit to left, with left fielder Randy Arozarena throwing the ball away to allow Rocchio to advance to third.
Tim Herrin (5-3) pitched a scoreless ninth for the victory that pulled Cleveland within four games of Seattle for the final AL wild-card position.
