Bears streak to 2-0

LEETONIA — Leetonia won two straight games for the first time since 2020 as the Bears dumped Mathews 38-28 on Friday.

Ethan Mathia had 23 carries for 170 yards and three touchdowns for the Bears. He also had a 75-yard kick-off return for a touchdown.

The Bears rushed 33 times as a team for 188 yards. The Leetonia passing attack completed six of 13 passes for 65 yards and a touchdown.

Leetonia is 2-0 for the first time since 2020 when it won its first six games.

Leetonia ended a 30-game losing streak by beating Vanlue on the road in the opener.

Leetonia is at Strasburg next Friday.

West Branch 21,

Philadelphia 13

BELOIT — West Branch held off a late charge by New Philadelphia to win its first game of the season 21-13 on Friday.

West Branch totaled 254 yards rushing as a team with Jeremiah Thomas carrying the ball 15 times for 101 yards and all three Warrior touchdowns.

West Branch led 21-0 with 3:18 left in the fourth quarter before the Quakers added two late touchdowns.

Grady Hirst had 73 yards rushing and threw for 71 yards to aid the Warrior effort.

West Branch (1-1) got nine tackles from Lukas Black on defense. Clayton Day had six tackles, while Zach Coffee had five tackles and a blocked extra point.

West Branch heads to Struthers next Friday.

CORTLAND — Crestview’s football team kept things rolling with a 35-7 win over Lakeview on Friday.

The Rebels are 2-0 and will travel to United for a battle of Columbiana County unbeatens next Friday.

Jake Noling rushed for 107 yards and three touchdowns for the Rebels He also completed 15 of 22 passes for 175 yards and a touchdown.

Mikey Proctor added 10 rushes for 86 yards and a touchdown. Caidyn McElhaney, Kyle Booth and Hayden Davis all had three catches for the Rebels as Davis also hauled in a 37-yard touchdown pass from Noling.

The Rebels had 391 yards of total offense to Lakeview’s 117.

McElhaney had an interception.

Lakeview is 1-1.
