MINERAL RIDGE — United’s defense didn’t give up a touchdown and the Eagles ran over Mineral Ridge, 27-9, Friday.
Quarterback Tom Brown ran for 176 yards and one touchdown and M’Kyan Haynes ran for two more touchdowns in leading the Eagles to a 2-0 start.
United led 7-3 at halftime with all the scoring coming in the second quarter — on a 1-yard run by United’s Rohan Kelly and a 27-yard field goal by Mineral Ridge’s Steven Guetirrez.
The Eagles opened the third quarter with two touchdowns in 6:40. Haynes took a direct snap and ran 12 yards for a score, followed by Brown’s 12-yard scamper. Liam Jones kicked the exta points to give the Eagles a 21-3 lead with 5:20 remaining in the third quarter.
Haynes added a 4-yard touchdown run with 7:50 remaining in the game to make it 27-3.
Mineral Ridge’s Chandler Busse returned the kickoff 75 yards for the Rams’ lone touchdown.
Both teams play next Friday as United hosts Crestview and Mineral Ridge (1-1) entertains Conneaut.

EAST PALESTINE — East Palestine’s offense is hitting on all cylinders.
Zach Schnelle and quarterback Clark Rutledge each ran for more than 100 yards and scored three touchdowns in leading the Bulldogs past Windham, 57-14, Friday.
Schnelle ran for 121 yards on nine carries and Rutledge added 106 yards on eight carries and threw a touchdown pass.
After Schnelle scored on a 26-yard run, Windham had first down on the Bulldog 2-yard line. Schnelle recovered the fumble and raced 85 yards for a touchdown as the Bulldogs took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
East Plaestine scored four more times in the second quarter — on a Schnelle 1-yard run, Rutledge runs of 18 and 5 yards and a Rutledge 28-yard pass to Braydon Plum for a 42-0 halftime lead.
The Bulldogs ran the clock in the second half, scoring on a Rutledge 19-yard run and Colton Early 39-yard run.
Early had two carries for 51 yards.
Both teams play next Friday with East Palestine at Bridgeport and Windham (0-2) at Jackson-Milton
