Warriors score split

GREENFORD — West Branch opened its volleyball season with a split Saturday at South Range, falling to Smithville before bouncing back to defeat the host Raiders.

The Warriors dropped their opener to Smithville in straight sets, 25-23, 25-20. Kendelle Hoopes paced West Branch with 10 assists, six kills and seven digs. Chloey Sanor added two aces, six points and seven digs, while Madilyn Hoopes tallied five kills, two blocks and two digs. Audrey Ring contributed four kills, eight blocks and five digs.

West Branch rebounded with a sweep of South Range, 25-13, 25-23, to even its record at 1-1. Sanor and Neely Gruver each scored seven points and two aces. Madilyn Hoopes finished with six kills and three blocks, Ring had five kills and three blocks, and Kendelle Hoopes chipped in 10 assists, four kills and five digs. For South Range, Natalie Burnett had 10 assists and five digs. Haylie John had 10 digs.

South Range beat Smithville, 25-18, 25-21. Anna Toy had six kills, 12 digs and three aces. Parker Zwingler had eight assists and five digs. Lily Weaver had seven kills.

In junior varsity action, West Branch topped Smithville 25-22, 16-25, 25-21, and beat South Range 25-15, 25-22.

West Branch hosts West Geauga today.

East Liverpool 3, Salem 0

SALEM — East Liverpool’s volleyball team whipped Salem 25-10, 25-19, 25-17 on Saturday.

For East Liverpool, Kamryn Yanni had 27 assists and 15 digs, while Presley Jones had five kills and three aces. Kendall Martin had seven aces and five kills. Ava Green had 17 kills, three aces and 10 digs. Hailey Board had eight kills. Ayla Riggle chipped in 12 digs and four assists.

For Salem, Abby Knickerbocker had 14 kills, three aces and two blocks. Kenna Mayhew had six kills. Macey Troy had 21 assists. Ryann Vross had two aces.

East Liverpool won the jayvee game, 25-15, 25-23.Koli Spencer had six aces, while Ella Gunning had six assists. Peyton Tanner had four kills and three assists. Lillie White had three aces and two kills.

Olivia Lewis had five aces and four kills for the Quakers.

East Liverpool won the freshman match, 25-22, 26-24. Ava Wesney had six aces. Brilynn Jones had two kills and four assists. Kennedy Talbott had three aces and three assists.

Salem hosts Ursuline on Thursday.

Rootstown 3, United 2

ROOTSTOWN — Rootstown toppled United 25-20, 21-25, 25-18, 15-25, 16-14 on Saturday.

For the Eagles, Maelee Smith had 11 kills, while Rileah Phillips had 10 kills and 19 assists. Baylee Smith had 31 digs.

United won the jayvee portion, 25-11, 25-17. Scarlett Courtney had 12 assists and three ace. Brenna Ritchie added two kills and two aces.
