Eagles get back on track

HANOVERTON -- United put a dent in East Palestine's Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference title hopes, while keeping its alive.
The Eagles knocked off the previously-unbeaten Bulldogs, 25-22, 25-20, 25-12, in United's new gymnasium Tuesday.
United was led by Marin Stryffeler with 13 points, including three aces. Maelee Smith had 10 kills and Megan Short seven kills.
The Eagles improve to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the EOAC, while the Bulldogs move to 5-1 and 4-1 EOAC. Both teams trail unbeaten Columbiana in the league standings.
After East Palestine took an early 7-4 lead in the first game, there were eight ties, thre last at 22-22. United scored the last three points as East Palestine had too many hits, Megan Short had a dink for a point and the Bulldogs had a setting error.
East Palestine had dropped only one game in its first five matches before losing three straight games to United.
East Palestine leaders were Kennedy Andre with 12 points, eight aces, seven assists and 14 digs; Cami Kridler 13 digs and 10 assists; Marley Blythe five points, four kills and 10 digs; Emma Gingher four kills and four digs; and Amara Wilson 13 digs.
United also won the junior varsity match, 25-21, 25-13, as Lily Erb had seven kills and Scarlett Courtney served 11 points.
For East Palestine, Violet Glavan had nine points, five aces and three kills. Cadence Vargo and Aliviana Valingo each had four kills.
East Palestine will play at Youngstown Mooney today, while United hosts Lisbon on Thursday.
Columbiana 3, Leetonia 0
LEETONIA -- Columbiana scored a 25-10, 25-6, 25-7 sweep of Leetonia on Tuesday.
The Clippers are 7-0 and 5-0 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.
Landry Smith had 12 kills, seven aces, a block, 11 points and two digs. Evy Rapp had two kills, 11 aces, 23 points and four digs. Addisyn Dangler had five kills, three aces, a block and five points. Eva Waller had 15 assists. Hailee Gomoll had three aces, three points and five digs. Audrey Barborak had four aces and five points.
Columbiana won the jayvee match 25-8, 25-9. Ella Eisenbraun had the kills, nine aces, seven assists and 12 points. Ava Marks had four kills, nine aces and 11 points. Sylvia Rapp had eight aces, two kills and nine points. Mikah Montgomery had five assists.
Columbiana hosts Southern on Sept. 9.
Crestview 3, Newton Falls 0
NEWTON FALLS -- Crestview's volleyball solved Newton Falls 25-16, 25-11, 25-14 in Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Grey Division action.
Crestview is 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the league.
Lainy Auer had 21 kills, six aces and 11 digs. Sophia Stewart had 25 assists, two blocks and three aces. Sophia Noling had five kills. Bella Ciapala had four kills. Sophia Dattilio had three kills and two blocks.
Crestview won the jayvee portion 25-18, 25-7. Lilly Lipply had four aces and a kill. Kelsey Houp had six kills. Phiatra Bradley added three kills and four digs.
The Rebels won the freshman match 25-9, 25-10. Addison Fitch had 11 aces and three kills. Makenna Ray had four kills, six points and four assists.
Crestview is at Canfield today.
West Branch 3, Alliance 0
BELOIT -- West Branch's girls volleyball team was a 25-9, 25-12, 25-9 winner over Alliance on Tuesday.
Aislyn Ring led the Warriors with 17 service points, including two aces, and added 10 assists and two digs. Kendyll Kaley contributed eight points, five aces, eight kills, six digs and a block. Abigail Janosik had eight kills and a dig, Madilyn Hoopes six kills, five blocks and three digs, and Audrey Ring four points, two aces, three kills, two blocks, four digs and an assist. Neely Gruver added eight points and an ace, while Elly Biskup had seven assists, a kill and a dig.
The Warriors are 5-4 and 2-1 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference.
West Branch's junior varsity won 25-10, 25-5.
West Branch hosts Carrollton on Thursday.
Salem 3, Southeast 0
SALEM -- Salem's volleyball team downs Southeast 25-14, 25-11, 25-22 on Saturday.
For the Quakers, Abby Knickerbocker had 14 kills, five blocks and seven digs. Aniya Jones added six kills and six digs. Macey Troy had 22 assists, two kills, seven digs and two blocks. Kenna Mayhew had two aces, six kills and eight digs. Angie Hoffaker had four aces and 11 digs. Alivia Ruth had five aces and six digs.
