Salem boys second

CUYAHOGA FALLS — The Salem boys finished second at the Walsh Jesuit Pat Ritchie Cross Country Invitational for the second straight year Saturday.

The Quakers were second out of 15 teams in the Division I-II boys varsity race with 73 points. Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy won with 50 points.

Salem had four of the top 18 runners in the 132-runner field — with Sam Yakubek in eighth, Luke Stephens 10th, Alex Rea 17th and Colton Hall 18th.

The Salem girls finished sixth out of 14 teams with Cassidy Wallace placing 24th.

Warriors at Dover

DOVER — East Liverpool senior Maddox Roach is piling up the wins.

Roach added the at the Dover Invitational to his list on Saturday.

He won the 89-runner field in the large school division in 17 minutes, 12.6 seconds on the 3.1-mile course.

West Branch junior Kyle Ormiston was sixth and West Branch freshman Logan Williams was 16th.

In the girls race for West Branch, freshman Rachel Teague was sixth, freshman Kelly Ewing 16th and junior Sonja Sanor was 19th.

Geiss wins at Wooster

WOOSTER — Heartland Christian senior Rebecca Geiss had another close finish Saturday.

Geiss topped the 236-runner girls field in the Division IV race at the Wooster Cross Country Invitational.

She covered the 3.1-mile course at Wooster High School in 18 minutes, 4.26 seconds.

Lake Center senior Gianna Ritchie was right behind in 18:04.42. Ritchie became Lake Center’s first state champion by winning the Division III 800 meters at the state track meet in June.
