Mount beats Wilmington

WILMINGTON — No. 2 Mount Union looked every bit the part of a national contender Saturday, rolling past Wilmington 59-0 for its first shutout of the season in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

The Purple Raiders (5-0, 3-0 OAC) racked up 609 yards of offense on 59 plays, averaging 10.3 yards per snap while holding Wilmington (1-4, 0-4) to just 108 rushing yards.

Freshman quarterback Mikey Maloney went 10-of-15 for 141 yards and two touchdowns and added 70 yards and a score on the ground. Graduate running back Darnell Williams ran for 163 yards — his third 100-yard game in the last four weeks — while sophomore Kayden Minner added 120 yards and two touchdowns. It marked the first time since 2022 that Mount Union had two 100-yard rushers in the same game.

Defensively, the Purple Raiders forced five turnovers, including four fumbles. Senior Kaleb Brown recorded a sack, a forced fumble, a recovery and a pass breakup, moving into seventh place on Mount Union’s all-time sack list with 25.5.

Mount Union scored on its first three drives and led 21-0 after one quarter, sparked by Maloney’s 38-yard touchdown run and a pair of Wilmington turnovers.

The Purple Raiders visit Heidelberg on Saturday, Oct. 18, for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
