Clippers set the pace in EOAC

COLUMBIANA — Columbiana swept the boys and girls team titles at the ninth Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference Cross Country Meet on Tuesday.

It was the first league title for the Columbiana boys since 1999 when they topped the Tri-County League. Ironically, Columbiana freshman Peyton Boggs’ father, Josh, won that race.

The Clippers scored 20 points Tuesday, followed by United with 36.

United junior Cole Billy won the boys race, covering the 3.1-mile course at the Ward Athletic Complex in 18 minutes, 31.50 seconds.

Columbiana took the next five places with sophomore Eric Hepner in second, freshman Nolan Clark third, sophomore Jace Zelonish fourth, freshman Peyton Boggs fifth and freshman Landon Snyder sixth.

Sophomore Kaitlin Benner won the girls race (21:19.57) as she guided the Clippers to a second straight team title. The Clippers scored 23 points, followed by Southern with 44 and United with 65.

The Columbiana girls four of the top six finishers with Benner in first, sophomore Sidney Schlueter third, junior Maddie Jackson fourth, sophomore Aubrie Quetot sixth and junior Ashlyn Peak ninth.

The Columbiana girls also won Inter-Tri County League titles in 2008 and 2009.
