CARROLLTON — It was a great night for Cletis Monroy as the Salem Quakers crushed Carrollton 48-20 on Friday.

Monroy had 15 carries for 96 yards and completed 12 of 18 passes for 136 yards — 117 of which were in the first half.

All five of the Quakers first half touchdowns Monroy had a hand in. The first score was a 55-yard punt return. He followed that with a 12-yard touchdown run and then threw a 37-yard touchdown to Josh Mayhew to make it 20-0 after the first quarter.

Monroy had a 1-yard touchdown run and an 11-yard scamper at the buzzer to end the first half to put Salem up 34-0 at half.

Brandon Kana added 19 carries and 183 yards rushing with a 33-yard third quarter touchdown for the Quakers.

The final score was a Monroy 53-yard return of an onside kick.

Salem is 5-3 and 2-1 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference. Carrollton fell to 3-5 and 1-2 in the EBC.

Salem hosts Marlington on Friday.

West Branch 34,

Alliance 28

BELOIT — West Branch survived a late Alliance comeback for a 34-28 win on Friday in a key Eastern Buckeye Conference tilt.

West Branch is 7-1 and 3-0 in the EBC. The Warriors can clinch at least a share of the league title with a home win over Carrollton next Friday.

Alliance fell to 6-2 and 2-1 in the league.

Grady Hirst completed 16 of 22 passes for 245 yards and two touchdowns, while he added 13 rushes for 69 yards and a touchdown. Drake Stryffeler had five catches for 43 yards and a touchdowns. Gavin Gregory had four catches for 75 yards. Jeremiah Thomas had seven rushes for 54 yards and a touchdown and also had a 71-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Stryffeler and Hirst had interceptions.

Clayton Day had nine tackles.
