AKRON –The Columbiana girls came up 10 strokes short of a state berth at the Division II district tournament Wednesday at Good Park Golf Course.

The Clippers, who won the sectional title last week, shot a 361 to finish fourth.

United advanced to the district tournament for the first time and placed seventh with a 383, bettering their school record by eight strokes.

Keytone had a winning score of 339. Chagrin Falls gained the second and final state berth with a 351.

The top two district teams and top two individuals not on a qualifying team advance to the state tournament Oct. 6-7 at Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springfield south of Dayton.

Chagrin Falls sophomore Elizabeth Pollock was the medalist with an 18-hole score of 74.

Individual qualifiers were Orange junior Anuja Patel in second (75) and Ashtabula Edgewood senior Annie Johnston in third (77).

Columbiana junior Maddie Jackson topped local golfers by placing seventh (81) in the 72-player field.

West Branch junior Isabella Linger was 10th (85).

Also for Columbiana, junior Claire Banner was 24th (91), senior Hannah Moffett was 30th (94), senior Alyssa Kakavros and junior Victoria Buckingham tied for 32nd (95).

For United, senior Emma Murphy was 23rd (90), senior Olivia Ashburn was 36th (96), freshman Claire Whetstone was 42nd (98), junior Alaina Brewer was 43rd (99) and senior Adelyn Johnson was 67th (115).
