Clippers control Bulldogs

EAST PALESTINE — Columbiana’s Cooper Brown had 20 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks as the Clippers cruised past East Palestine 84-60 on Tuesday.

Hunter Davanzo added 18 points and 16 boards, while Senator Johnson had 20 points.

Columbiana is 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference. The Clippers host Southern on Friday.

R.J. May had 22 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals for the Bulldogs, 0-3 overall and 0-3 in the league. Kealin Simon added 14 points. Drew Bycroft added 11 points, five rebounds and four assists. Clark Rutledge had 11 points, five rebounds and two steals. East Palestine is at Lisbon on Friday.

Columbiana won the jayvee portion, 56-32. Zander Oliver had 17 points for the Clippers, followed by Brennan Murphy’s 13.

Kealin Simon had seven points for the Bulldogs.

HANOVERTON — Jason Pratt stunned Lisbon with 29 points as the Golden Eagles marched past the Devils 56-49 on Tuesday.

United is 4-1 and 2-1 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.

Lisbon fell to 4-2 and 2-1 in the league.

For Lisbon, Logan Sturgeon had 17 points, six rebounds and four steals. A.J. Ramgeet added 12 points.

United won the jayvee game, 48-41. Ryan Miller had 18 points for the winners. Cooper Terdina had 15 points for Lisbon.

Lisbon hosts East Palestine on Friday.

United is at Valley Christian on Friday.

BOARDMAN — Boardman captured its first win of the season by downing West Branch, 54-49, Tuesday.

The Spartans improve to 1-4 under second-year head coach Steve Flores, a 1997 graduate of East Liverpool High School.

Jayse Varley led the Spartans with 16 points, followed by Jerry Smith with 14 points.

West Branch was led by Jeremiah Thomas, who had a game-high 18 points and three steals. Grady Hirst contributed 11 points and eight rebounds and Gavin Gregory 10 points and nine rebounds.

WB moves to 2-3 on the season.

Boardman also won the junior varsity game, 59-35.

Both teams play Friday with West Branch hosting Alliance in a battle of Eastern Buckeye Conference leaders, while Boardman entertains Warren JFK.

Leetonia 73, Southern 69

SALINEVILLE –Leetonia snapped a 23-game losing streak in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play Tuesday with a 73-69 win againstSouthern.

The Bears improve to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the EOAC. Their last league win was a 52-47 decision over Southern on Jan. 9, 2024.

Ethan Mathia led the Bears with a game-high 26 points and Dylan Johns hit six of Leetonia’s 12 three-pointers for 23 points. Dylan Brown added 13 points and Dylan Johns eight.

The Bears outscored the Indians 17-11 in the fourth quarter to rally.

Leetonia improves to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the EOAC. Southern drops to 0-4 and 0-3.

For the Indians, Jacob McCurdy had a team-high 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks.

Mason Pitts had 18 points, six rebounds and four steals. Landen Heffner contributed 16 points, seven assists and two steals. Aiden Davis added nine points and eight rebounds.

Southern won the two-quarter junior varsity game, 18-15, as Ben Paxson scored five points.

Both teams play Friday with Leetonia at Wellsville and Southern at Columbiana.

Crestview is 1-3 and 0-2 in the league.

Newton Falls is 2-3 and 1-0 in the league.

The Rebels are at Champion on Friday.

Heartland 51, Liberty 35

YOUNGSTOWN — Sarah Reynolds tallied 24 points to lead Heartland’s girls basketball team to a 51- 35 win over Liberty on Tuesday.

Kaylin Norbo added 14 points for the Lions, 2-5. Gabriella McDowell chipped in eight points.

Heartland is at Southern on Saturday.
