Salem suffers EBC defeat

CARROLLTON -- Carrollton held Salem to 13 points in the second half during a 67-35 win in Eastern Buckeye Conference play Friday.

The Warriors improve to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the EBC.

Salem -- averaging 44.3 points a game -- drops to 1-5 and 0-3 EBC.

Jayven Johnson led Carrollton with 18 points. Tyvian Johnson and Marcus Johnson added 12 apiece.

Topping the Quakers was Deontay Steele with a game-high 20 points

Salem will host Poland on Tuesday.

Carrollton entertains Edison on Dec. 28 before heading to Beaver Local on Jan. 3.

WELLSVILLE -- Wellsville got 18 points from Austin Adkins in a 65-37 rout of Leetonia on Friday.

Andrew Mackey added 11 points and 11 rebounds. Clayten Kersey had 15 points, while Haydin Oliver had seven rebounds. Jeron Jackson chipped in seven points and seven assists.

Wellsville is 2-5 and 2-2 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.

Leetonia (2-5, 1-3) was paced by Dylan Johns' 15 points.

Wellsville won the jayvee game, 40-21. Cooper Frank had 11 points for the Tigers. Aiden Hunter scored 15 for the Bears.

COLUMBIANA -- Senator Johnson scored 17 of his game-high 25 points in the second half as Columbiana rolled to a 68-43 win over Southern on Friday in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play.

Cooper Brown added a triple double with 14 points, 10 assists and 10 boards for the winners, 7-0 and 4-0 in the league.

Landen Heffner paced the Indians (0-5, 0-4 in the EOAC) with 15 points and seven assists. Aiden Davis added 10 rebounds. Mason Pitts had 14 points and four rebounds.

Columbiana hosts Lisbon on Friday.

Southern hosts Jefferson County Christian today.

BELOIT -- Jeremiah Thomas garnered 19 points to lead West Branch to a 56-51 win over Alliance on Friday in Eastern Buckeye Conference play.

The Warriors move to 3-3 overall and 3-0 in the EB, while Alliance fell to 6-1 and 2-1 in the EBC. The Warriors now have the outright league lead.

Grady Hirst added 11 points, four rebounds and five assists. Zach Coffee had seven rebounds. Kasen Weaver added 10 points.

J.R. Jackson had 15 points for the Aviators.

West Branch won the jayvee game, 28-32. Luke Curry had 16 points for Branch. Grady Olinger added 11 points.

West Branch is at South Range on Tuesday.

WARREN -- Crestview's boys basketball team picked up a 70-60 win over Champion on Friday in Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Gray Division play.

Crestview's 27-point first quarter set the tone.

The Rebels improve to 2-3 and 1-2 in the league.

Champion is 1-4 and 0-2.

Crestview is at Garfield on Tuesday.
