Champion edges Rebels; Leetonia’s King gets 37

Champion 68, Crestview 62
COLUMBIANA — Zack Morris’ steal and layup late in the third quarter gave Champion the lead for good in a 68-62 decision over Crestview in Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Gray Tier play Wednesday.
Champion improves to 3-12, while Crestview moves to 5-10. Both teams are 2-7 in league play.
Morris’ basket gave Champion a 44-43 lead with 19 seconds left in the third quarter.
Champions lead got as high as six points in the fourth quarter at 50-44 and also the final score. Crestview cut the margin to 63-60 with 42 seconds remaining, but got no closer.
Crestview led 15-11 after the first quarter and the teams were tied 31-31 at halftime.
Both teams play today as Crestview hosts Garrettsville Garfield and Champion visits Liberty.

Leetonia 71, Urban Scholars 37
LEETONIA — Leetonia junior Jason King totaled a career-high 37 points and 12 rebounds as the Bears cruised past Youngstown Academy for Urban Scholars on Wednesday.
King hit five three-pointers during a 23-point third-quarter outburst in which the Bears outscored Urban Scholars 34-11.
Dylan Johns added 18 points and Aiden Hunter eight.
Leetonia improves to 4-11, while Urban Scholars drop to 2-7.
Leetonia also won the two-quarter junior varsity game, 20-11. Kadyn Taylor and Dylan Brown each scored six points for the Bears.
Both teams play Southern Local next — Leetonia hosts the Indians on Friday and Urban Scholars travels to Southern on Saturday

NEW PHILADELPHIA — Tuscarawas Central Catholic survived 29% shooting from the field and 35% from the foul line to beat Southern Local, 44-41, Wednesday.
Dylan Dumermuth had a game-high 20 points and four steals to lead the Saints.
The Saints improve to 3-11 and the Indians drop to 1-13.
Landen Heffner topped the Indians with 13 points. Jacob McCurdy collected 12 points and eight rebounds.
Southern will play at Leetonia on Friday
