Quakers can’t catch Lions

SALEM — Owen Shick had 28 points to power Minerva to an 80-55 win over Salem on Friday in Eastern Buckeye Conference play.
Braydon Wood added 18 points for the Lions, 7-8 and 3-4 in the EBC.
Salem (3-10, 0-7) was led by Jack Andres’ 16 points and seven rebounds. Ty Manion added 15 points, five rebounds and five assists. Weston Mango had six rebounds.
Salem hosts Carrollton on Tuesday.

LEETONIA — Jason King had 29 points and 14 rebounds to lead Leetonia to a 61-50 win over Southern on Friday in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play.
Dylan Johns added 13 points for the Bears.
Jacob McCurdy had 19 points for the Indians. Mason Pitts added 13 points.
Leetonia is 5-11 and 3-7 in the EOAC.
Southern (1-14 and 0-10) is set to host Urban Scholars Saturday.
The Bears will host Wellsville on Tuesday.

COLUMBIANA — Heartland Christian survived a second half scare from Lowellville to pull out a 65-60 win on Friday.
The Lions led 34-27 at the half, but Lowllville snagged a 48-47 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Collin Kalaher sparked the winners with 25 points, while Brody Conaway added 18 points.
The Lions are 12-4 and are set to host the Youngstown Urban Scholars next Friday.
Lowellville fell to 8-7.

East Palestine 39
COLUMBIANA — Four Columbiana players scored in double figures as the Clippers rolled over East Palestine, 74-39, in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play Friday.
Senator Johnson collected a game-high 18 points, four rebounds and three assists and Hunter Davanzo had 16 points and 14 rebounds. Cooper Brown contributed 11 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and three blocks and Carter Johnson 11 points and three assists.
The Clippers improve to 13-2 overall and 9-1 in the EOAC, tied with Lisbon for the league lead. Columbiana will play at Southern on Tuesday and at Lisbon on Friday.
Columbiana scored at least 18 points in every quarter.
The Clippers jumped out to a 20-11 lead in the first quarer as Cooper Brown scored nine points and Sentor Johnson five.
Drew Bycroft topped East Palestine with 14 points, five rebounds and two steals. Clark Rutledge had eight points, four assists and three steals. RJ May added four rebounds and two steals.
East Palestine drops to 1-12 and 1-9 in league play. The Bulldogs will play at Rootstown at 1 p.m. Saturday
Columbiana also won the junior varsity game, 39-19. Liam McElwain scored 10 points for the Clippers. Mason Gorby had 13 points for the Bulldogs.

ALLIANCE — Gavin Gregory and Grady Hirst both had double-doubles in leading West Branch past Marlington, 45-33, in Eastern Buckeye Conference play Friday.
Gregory totaled 16 points, 13 points and three steals and Hirst had 14 points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Kasen Weaver added eight points and three rebounds.
The Warriors improve to 8-5 overall and 7-0 in the EBC, one game ahead of Alliance. West Branch will play at Alliance on Tuesday in a battle of the EBC’s top teams. Alliance beat Carrollton, 65-44, Friday to drop Carrollton to 3-3 in the EBC, good for third place.
Marlington falls to 3-11 overall and 1-5 in league play. The Dukes will play at Minerva on Tuesday.
West Branch outscored the Dukes in every quarter, taking a 23-16 halftime lead.
West Branch also won the junior varsity game, 38-29, as Michael McCartney scored 11 points.

COLUMBIANA –Addison Rhodes had 45 points and seven rebounds in an 83-37 win over Garfield on Friday in girls basketball action.
Ava Bucey added 12 points and six rebounds. Brianna Baker had six points, four steals and three assists. Karli Perry had 10 points.
Crestview is 16-1 overall and 12-0 in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Grey Division. The Rebels can earn the outright league title with a win at LaBrae on Monday — weather pending.
Crestview won the jayvee game, 26-3. Lainey Milhoan had eight points for the Rebels.
