Quakers topple Eagles

SALEM — Salem went on a 22-0 run in the third quarter to pull away from United for a 67-36 win Friday.
It was the Quakers’ second-highest offensive output of the season.
Deontay Steele scored 10 of his game-high 22 points in Salem’s 29-6 third-quarter outburst. Ty Manion had nine of his 15 points in the third quarter.
Jack Andres added punch off the bench with 14 points and seven rebounds. Manion added six assists and five rebounds and Steele grabbed five rebounds.
Salem improves to 3-9, while United drops to 7-6.
After United closed the deficit to 29-22 early in the third quarter, Salem had its 22-0 run and led 58-26 heading into the fourth quarter.
Salem’s advantage got as high as 40 points at 67-27 before the Eagles scored the final nine points.
The Quakers had seven turnovers in the opening four minutes of the second quarter that helped United pull within one at 19-18.
Salem turned the ball over just once the rest of the first half and Andres scored eight straight points to give the Quakers a 29-20 halftime lead.
Kota Shasteen topped the Eagles with 11 points. He scored nine of United’s first 16 points. Jason Pratt contributed nine points.
Salem also won the junior varsity game, 58-41, as Colton Hall scored a season-high 20 points. Carter Cope had 12 points for the Eagles.
Both teams play Friday as Salem host Minerva and United travels to EOAC co-leader Lisbon.

Heartland 82, Valley 55
YOUNGSTOWN — Heartland Christian snapped a four-game losing streak with an 82-55 win over Valley Christian on Tuesday.
Heartland improved to 4-0 against Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference schools.
The 11-4 Lions will host Lowellville on Friday.
Valley Christian is 7-5.

Struthers 50
STRUTHERS — Columbiana had no trouble with Struthers in a 67-50 win over the Wildcats on Tuesday at Struthers Fieldhouse.
Columbiana moves to 12-2 having won five straight.
Senator Johnson paced the winners with 19 points, while Cooper Brown added 17 points. Hunter Davazno had 13 points and 15 rebounds.
The Clippers will host East Palestine on Friday in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play.
Struthers fell to 2-11.
Struthers won the jayvee game, 51-40. Carter Griffith had 12 points for Columbiana. Zander Oliver added 11 points.
