Quakers crush Beavers

CALCUTTA — Salem outscored Beaver Local 16-0 in the second quarter to highlight the Quakers’ 47-21 win Wednesday.

The Quakers finish the regular season at 12-10. The Beavers finish at 8-14, including a 1-5 mark against Columbiana County opponents.

Abby Knickerbocker scored eight of her 14 points in the second quarter to go along with 10 rebounds. Maddy Andres added 10 points and Ava Lee nine points and four rebounds. Karlie Sampson had three assists.

Bella McLevey and Ally Wright both scored six points for the Beavers.

Salem scored nine straight points to take an early 11-2 lead before Beaver Local closed within 16-10 at the end of the first quarter.

The Quakers went on an 18-0 run pull ahead 34-10 wtih 7:22 to play in the third quarter.

Salem led 47-17 with 5 1/2 minutes left in the game and Beaver Local outscored the Quakers 4-0 the rest of the way.

Salem also won the junior varsity game, 26-9, in two quarters. Ava Lee led the Quakers (12-3) with 14 points.

YOUNGSTOWN — West Branch jumped ahead 29-15 at halftime and beat Youngstown Ursuline, 55-40, Wednesday.

The Warriors improve to 18-3 heading into Satuday’s home game against Girard to end the regular season.

The Irish even their mark at 10-10. They will host Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joseph on Saturday.

West Branch took a 42-30 lead through three quarters and widened the margin to 38-33 in the fourth quarter.

Urban Scholars 27

HANOVERTON — Jason Pratt hit three three-pointers in the first quarter to put the United boys on their way to a 66-27 win over the Youngstown Academy for Urban Scholars on Wednesday.

Eleven Eagles scored baskets in the victory with Pratt scoring a game-high 15 points on five three-pointers. Kota Shasteen and Matthew Hoopes each added 12 points.

United, which took a 21-6 lead in the first quarter, improves to 11-9. The Eagles will play at East Liverpool on Friday.

The Hawks drop to 3-11, including two wins against Sebring. Urban Scholars is 0-7 against Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference teams.

There was no junior varsity game.
