Rebels enjoys another 20-win campaign

Crestview 77, Grand Valley 53

COLUMBIANA — The Crestview Rebels have been winning since senior All-Ohioan Addison Rhodes arrived.

The Rebels posted their fourth straight 20-win season by Grand Valley, 77-53, Thursday.

Crestview improves to 20-2 and rebounded after a stunning MVAC loss at LaBrae on Monday.

Rhodes scored a game-high 39 points on 13-of-14 free throw shooing with 10 rebounds and three steals. She had a school-record 50 consecutive free throws made broken with a miss and then started a new streak by making her next 11.

Sophomore Brianna Baker had one of her best games with 17 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Ava Bucey added 12 points and Katie MacKay grabbed seven rebounds.

Grand Valley finishes the regular season at 19-3, which includes losses to Maplewood and Berkshire. The Bulldogs won 11 games in a row before Thursday’s loss.

The Rebels scored eight straight points in a 44-second span late in the first half to go ahead 45-30 at halftime.

Leading 37-30 with one minute to play in the half, Bucey hit a three-pointer Rhodes grabbed a rebound and raced the length of the court for a layup and then Rhodes blocked a Grand Valley shot and she followed with a three-pointer with 16 seconds remaining for a 45-30 lead.

Grand Valley, which has no seniors, was led by freshman Riley Rowland’s 20 points.

There was no junior varsity game.

United 39, East Liverpool 28

HANOVERTON — United opened the fourth quarter on a 12-0 run to break open a close game for a 39-28 win over East Liverpool on Thursday.

The Eagles were leading 26-24 heading into the fourth quarter and widened the margin to 38-24.

Reagan Good guided United with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Maelee Smith had nine points, 14 rebounds and three steals, Bella Thompson eight points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals and Ines Vilela Rego eight points and three rebounds.

LaNease Andrews scored 11 points for the Pottesr.

United finishes the regular season at 14-8, winning six of their last seven games. The Eagles beat East Liverpool, 53-44, on Feb. 2.

East Liverpool drops to 6-16 after losing six of their last seven games.

United also won the junior varsity game, 13-8, as Ines Vilela Rego scored nine points.

EAST PALESTINE — McDonald held off East Palestine for a 46-37 win Thursday.

The Blue Devils won for the seventh time in nine games to finish the regular season at 13-9. The Bulldogs move to 10-12.

Julianna Krumpak led McDonald with 13 points, ncluding eight in the fourth quarter to preserve the victory. Sophia Peccia added 11 points and Noami Sheesley 10.

Jacklyn Ogle paced East Palestine with a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds. Destiney Burtyk added nine points and four rebounds. Amara Wilson grabbed seven rebounds and Violet Glavan four.
