Rebs: Sectional runners-up

WARREN — Wellsville junior twins Makayla and Madelyn Landess advanced as individuals and the Crestview boys and girls bowling teams advanced out of the Division II sectional tournament at Freeway Lanes on Sunday.

Makayla Landess captured the sectional title with 572 series (187-206-179), eight pins better than Struthers senior Maddie Marshall.

Madelyn Landess was 12th with a 443 seres (153-128-162).

The Crestview girls were second in the team standings with 2,982 pins. The other district qualifying teams were Lakeview (3178), Hubbard (2036), Struthers (1976) and LaBrae (1903).

The top five teams and top five individuals not on a qualifying team advance to the district tournament at Rebman Recreation in Lorain — the boys on Feb. 20 and the girls on Feb. 21.

Crestview featured four of the top 17 girls Sunday. Freshman Kylee Wolfe led the Rebels, placing fourth with a 522 series (187-175-160). lso for the Rebels, senior Blasey Biser was 11th with a 452 series (137-160-155), sophomore Cathryn Best was 16th with a 419 series (136-163-120), freshman Nicole Kernich was 17th with a 417 series (109-102-206) and senior Olyvia Barnett was 29th with a 380 series (118-144-118).

Southern finished 13th in the team standings (1955). Sophomore Hannah Spooner paced the Indians with a 305 series (102-104-99).

The Crestview boys also were second with 3,671. LaBrae won with 4,093, while Lakeview (3444), Lowellville (3309) and Ursuline (3293) also advanced.

Crestview’s boys had three of the top 13 bowlers. Senior Brody Brubaker was fifth with a 589 series (207-200-182), senior Peyton Mellott was 12th with a 549 series (158-194-202), junior Lucas Johnson was 13th with a 546 series (159-205-182) and senior Christopher Johnson was 12th with a 435 series (127-184-124).

The Southern boys were 13th (2625).

Other area individuals included Wellsville junior Cameron Taylor 19th with a 512 series (207-171-194), Southern freshman Jace Gilliam was 33rd with a 455 series (121-155-179), Southern sophomore Mason Sosack was 37th with a 442 series (144-152-146), Wellsville senior William Lockhart was 41st with a 433 series (108-174-151) and Wellsville sophomore Danny Allen was 58th with a 378 series (117-128-133).

Hawkins to district

KENT — United senior Josh Hawkins advanced to the Division II boys bowling district tournament on Friday.

Hawkins finished seventh at the sectional tournament individually with a 620 series at Spins Bowl. He had games of 236-169-215.

The top four teams and top four individuals not on a qualifying team qualify for the district tournament at Rebman Recreation in Lorain on Feb. 20.

Mogadore Field junior Peyton Hover was the top bowler with a 741 series (256-247-238).

The top four teams were Mogadore Field (4,458), Wooster Triway (4,054), Springfield (4,017) and Lake Center Christian (3,871).

United finished 10th (3,235) and Heartland Christian was 13th (3,128).

Following Hawkins for the Eagles were freshman Owen Moser in 27th with a 521 series (197-148-176), freshman Gabriel Conway in 48th with a 464 series (180-136-148) and junior Ethan Logan in 58th with a 415 series (141-109-185).

For Heartland Christian, junior Titus Trunick was 26th with a 522 series (175-164-183), senior Mason Sharon was 30th with a 519 series (163-183-173) and junior Christian Hamilton was 37th with a 507 series (140-195-172).
