Salem girls win sectional
AVON LAKE — Salem’s girls wrestling team won the sectional title on Sunday at the girls wrestling meet at Avon Lake High School.
The Quakers scored 121 points to top the hosts who had 106.5 points in second place.
Champions for the Quakers include Delaney Callahan (115), Paige Menough (140) and Amber Le Bourdais (145).
Lyric McCullough took third (170).
Finishing fourth for the Quakers was Chaya Murray (130).
Those Quakers will head to the district meet set for next Sunday at Mentor High School. The top four finishers at that meet will advance to the state tournament.
Austintown
AUSTINTOWN — West Branch’s Grace Bates scored three pins to take the 155-pound girls werstling sectional title on Saturday at Austintown Fitch.
East Palestine’s McKenna Paparella also captured first place at 105 at the meet.
Warriors also advancing to next Sunday’s Div. II district meet were Abigail Benner who was second at 145 and Abigail Janosik who was second at 135.
Southern Local’s Aubree Pucci was fourth at 190.
Northwest
CANAL FULTON — United’s Auston Brown won at 135 pounds to lead area girls on Sunday at the sectional meet at Northwest High School.
Myla French took second at 115 and will join Brown at next Sunday’s district at Mentor. Also placing in the top four for the Eagles was Taylor Simmons who was third at 120.
