Leetonia seeks Hall of Famer
LEETONIA — The Leetonia Athletic Hall of Fame is accepting nominations for the Class of 2026. Induction of the new members will be held the weekend of Sept. 4-5, 2026.
Nomination forms are available on the school website www.leetonia.k132.oh.us and the administration office. Deadline for nominations is May 31. Nomination forms should be mailed to Leetonia Athletic Hall of Fame, 450 Walnut St,, Leetonia, OH 44431.
County meet set for today
SALEM — The 122nd Columbiana County Track and Field Meet will be held today at Sebo Stadium.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for students.
Action starts at 4:30 p.m. with the boys discus and high jump, the girls shot put and long jump and the finals in the girls and boys 3200-meter relay. The rest of the running events will follow at 5:15 p.m.
The Salem boys and girls are the defending team champions.
Salem has held a lot of county meets
SALEM — Salem is hosting the Columbiana County Track and Field Boys Meet for the 45th time today.
It has been held every time in Salem at Sebo Stadium, formerly known as Reilly Stadium, since the first time in 1928.
The boys meet has been held in East Palestine 51 times, in Lisbon at the Columbiana County Fairgrounds 22 times and East Liverpool three times. It was moved to Mount Union in 1927 because the fairgrounds were flooded.
Girls meet closes in on 50th
SALEM — The 49th Columbiana County Track and Field Girls Meet will be held today.
This is the 17th time Salem has hosted the girls meet. It has been held in East Palestine 29 times.
Lisbon hosted the girls meet twice (1979, 1981) and East Liverpool once (2005).
Hiscox advances at OVAC
ST. CLAIRSVILLE — United’s Brinsley Hiscox and Taylor Simmons and Southern’s Maddy Jones posted the top marks in the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Class 1A-3A qualifying meet Wednesday.
Hiscox topped the Class 3A girls 100-meter hurdles, while Simmons tied for the top spot in the high jump.
Jones was first in the Class 1-2A girls shot put.
Area teams sent only a few athletes because the Columbiana County Track and Field Meet will be held today in Salem.
The top four in the running events and top five in the field events advance Saturday’s OVAC finals at Red Devil Stadium.
