Devils set up key game

COLUMBIANA — Lisbon swept the season series from Columbiana by exploding for 11 runs in the sixth inning to top Columbiana 15-4 on Monday in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference baseball action.

Ashton Hinchcliffe led the charge with four hits and four RBIs. Mason Jones had three hits. Bryce Esarey added a single, double and four RBIs.

Brady Carpenter had two hits and two RBIs.

Mason Jones got the win by pitching a scoreless inning of relief. Logan Sturgeon went five innings with seven strikeouts and seven walks before that.

Avery Young had two hits for the Clippers who led 3-1 at one point and later tied the game at 4 in the fifth inning.

Sam Inboden took the loos with seven earned runs over seven batters.

Lisbon (12-7, 9-1 in the EOAC) still controls its own destiny in the league as it hosts United on Wednesday for first place and then closes out the league slate at Leetonia on Thursday.

The Devils also play at East Liverpool today.

Columbiana is 9-12 and 7-4 in the league.

The Clippers host Marlington today.

Crestview 3

NEWTON FALLS — Newton Falls was up to the task as it scored a 13-3 win over Crestview on Monday in five innings.

Isaac Unkefer and Grant Snyder had two hits each for the Rebels.

Logan Neff was the losing pitcher with a strikeout and no walks over eight batters.

Crestview is 12-8 and 6-6 in the MVAC Gray Division.

The Rebels host Newton Falls today.

East Palestine 17, Southern 2

SALINEVILLE — Shane Newman had three hits and four RBIs, while Peyton Rutledge added three hits and three RBIs in an East Palestine 17-2 win over Southern in five innings.

Clark Rutledge added two hits and an RBI, while Brad Bartels had a single and double. Luke Kinkead had two hits and three RBIs. Mason Gorby chipped in with two hits and four RBIs.

Kealin Simon was the winning pitcher with nine strikeouts and a walk over five innings.

Mason Pitts had two hits for Southern. Mason Sosack added a double and TJ Homan had a triple.

Pitts was the losing pitcher with seven walks and three strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings.

East Palestine (9-9 and 6-5 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference) hosts Southern today.

Southern is 5-11 and 3-8 in the EOAC.

United 5, Salem 3

HANOVERTON — Cavan Jackson had a single and double with three RBIs in United’s 5-3 win over Salem on Monday. Quentin Taylor added two hits.

Carter Simmons was the winning pitcher with eight strikeouts and a walk over 6 1/3 innings.

For Salem, Bairon Exline had a home run.

Ben Kuboff took the loss with three strikeouts, four walks and five earned runs over three innings.

United is 14-6 and will be at Lisbon for a first-place Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference battle on Wednesday.

Salem is 2-17 and is at Howland today.

Leetonia 18, Wellsville 7

LEETONIA — Dom Lewis had three hits and three RBIs, while Jason King collected three hits and two RBIs in Leetonia’s 18-7 win over Wellsville on Monday.

Jaden Rivers added two hits and four RBIs.

King was the winning pitcher with six walks and six strikeouts over three innings.

Jay Paige had a single and double with two RBIs.

Cooper Frank took the loss with two walks and two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings.

Leetonia is 5-10 and 2-7 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.

Wellsville is 0-16 and 0-11 in the EOAC.

The two teams play again on Wednesday at Leetonia.
