Lisbon enjoyed the ride

ASHTABULA — The Lisbon softball team fell behind by three in the first inning, but the Blue Devils stayed in it until the end in a 5-1 loss to Ashtabula St. John on Monday in a Div. VII district semifinal.
The Heralds’ Isabelle Holler kept the Blue Devils on their toes the entire game as she struck out 16 and walked two.
Abby Ammon’s double in the fourth gave the Blue Devils’ only run. She also had a single. Delaney Pickens had Lisbon’s other hit.
Lisbon’s Kamryn Peruchetti took the loss as she struck out three and walked one in six innings. Only one run was earned as the Devils committed seven errors.
Lisbon, the 14th seed, finishes the season 8-14.
Eighth seeded St. John (11-9) will face No. 1 seed Maplewood for the district title at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Mentor High School.
Maplewood was a 11-1 winning over Rittman in its district semifinal on Monday.

MCDONALD 7, EAST PALESTINE 0
MCDONALD — Top-seed McDonald was all business in a 7-0 win over East Palestine on Monday in a Div. VI district final.
Standout Blue Devil pitcher Aubrey Evans struck out 19 and walked four while tossing a no-hitter in the McDonald rout. Miley Titus and Claire O’Leary had two hits each for McDonald as did Elise Evans.
McDonald (19-3) advanced to meet No. 8 seed Columbia Station Columbia at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Jackson-Milton for the district final.
East Palestine, the 18th seed, is 9-9.
Kennedy Andre went the distance for East Palestine as she had four walks, three strikeouts and two earned runs.

BEAVER 8, RIVER VIEW 2
CALCUTTA — Top-seeded Beaver Local’s 8-2 win over ninth-seeded River View in a Division IV district semifinal was a true team effort Monday.
Everyone in the batting order got a hit highlighted by consecutive RBI singles by freshmen Macie Bourne and Gianna Congrove to give the Beavers the lead for good.
The Beavers have won 11 of their last 12 games to improve to 24-4. They will meet second-seeded John Glenn (24-5) in the district final at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Tuscarawas Valley.
John Glenn beat 12th-seeded Cambridge, 3-0, in the other semifinal. John Glenn opened the tournament with a 6-0 win over East Liverpool on April 12.
Beaver Local’s Addie Thurik went 3-for-3 and scored three runs and was the winning pitcher. She struck out 16, throwing 81 strikes in 111 pitches, and scattered five hits with one walk.
Thurik got the first eight outs all by strikeouts swinging. She had at least two strikes on each of the first 11 batters.
Congrove collected two hits with Ally Wright and Ciara Call each driving in two runs. Brenna Jones, Calleigh Eells and Mya Anderson hit doubles.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning, the Beavers scored in four straight innings.
Ally Wright’s sacrifice fly scored Thurik to tie the score in the bottom of the first.
Anderson led off the second with a double of the center fielder’s head and Bourne and Congrove had consecutive RBI singles with two outs for a 3-1 advantage.
Wright started the third inning with a walk, went to second on Call’s sacrifice bunt and scored on Jones’ two-out double to give the Beavers a 4-1 lead.
Beaver Local added three more runs in the fourth and another in the sixth.
Hallie Wallace hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning for the Black Bears’ second run.
Haylee Hall gave up seven earned runs with five strikeouts and three walks in the complete-game loss.
