AUSTINTOWN — They may have taken the district track meet out of Salem, but they can’t take away the Quakers’ winning ways.

The Salem girls and boys combined for five district champions and eight more regional qualifiers at the Austintown Fitch Division III district meet Thursday.

Both teams surged into the lead in the team standings with the girls totaling 57 points through four events at Falcon Stadium and the girls 45 points through five events.

Girls district champions were junior Madolyn Gorby in the high jump (5-foot-0), junior Macey Troy in the shot put (36-4 1/2) and Addison Hopple, Emily Sinsley, Sarah Sinsley and Laura Hovroka in the 3200 relay (9:54.51).

For the Salem boys, senior Lucas Adams won the long jump (22-2 1/2 on his first attempt) and Alex Rea, Cooper Barth, Colton Hall and Sam Yakubek were first in the 3200 relay (8:18.72).

The top four in each event return to Austintown Fitch next week for the regional meet.

There will be many more Quakers at the regional meet.

Freshman Colt Stockman was second in the boys discus (148-11 and two other throws over 145 feet) and senior Hunter Owen was third (144-0); senior Maddy Andres was second in the girls shot put (35-6 3/4); junior Peyton Colbert was third in the girls high jump (4-10); freshman Addison Hopple was second (11:43.14) and sophomore Liliana Pimentel Alexander was fourth (11:57.52) in the girls 3200 run; and sophomore Alex Rea was third (10:26.73) and junior Luke Stephens was fourth (10:31.80) in the boys 3200 run.

The district meet will conclude Saturday with the remaining field events at 10 a.m. and the running finals at 11:30 p.m.
