West Branch escapes Salem

SALEM — Layla Carreon and Carly Loper had three hits each to lead West Branch to a 3-2 win over Salem on Thursday.

Ellie Tucker got the win with seven strikeouts and three walks in seven innings.

Morgan Colian had two hits for Salem. Morgane Blaine was the losing pitcher with seven strikeouts and two walks in 5 2/3 innings.

West Branch is 8-10 and 5-4 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference. The Warriors are at Hubbard today.

Salem is 5-12 and 3-6 in the league. Salem hosts Warren Harding on May 14.

United 17, Columbiana 7

HANOVERTON — It was a clean sweep for the United softball team.

The Golden Eagles completed a perfect campaign in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference with a 17-7 win over Columbiana in six innings on Thursday.

The Eagles are 15-5 and 12-0 in the EOAC. Columbiana finished in second place with a 12-6 overall mark and a 10-2 league record.

Chloe Angelo and Payten Kekel homered for the winners with Angelo adding two more hits and five RBIs. Callie Koons added a single and double. Jillian Dietrich had a double.

Madison Aegerter struck out three and walked one in six innings of work.

For Columbiana, Alexis Sperling had three hits. Landry Smith had two hits as did Kyla Hogan. Ella Eisenbraun had a double and three RBIs.

United will host Beaver Local on Saturday morning.

Columbiana is at Alliance on Monday.
