COLUMBIANA -- The 2026 Clipper Cross Country Series got off to a fast start Wednesday.
Former Southern Local standout Logan Redfern topped the 103-runner field by covering the new 1.8-mile middle school course in 9 minutes, 54 seconds.
There were 103 runners in the opening race at the Ward Athletic Complex. It was the debut on the new course that was necessitated by construction at the school.
Beaver Local incoming seventh grader Samantha Williams was the top female runner in 11:23. She was 13th overall.
Last month, Williams finished eighth in the girls middle school 2-mile race at the New Balance Nationals in Philadelphia. There she ran a personal-best 10:56.85.
The second race in the Clipper Cross Country Series will be on the 5K high school course will be on Wednesday starting at 7 p.m. Registration begins at 6 p.m.
