Eagles net three in opening win

HANOVERTON -- United’s girls soccer team got off to a strong start with a 3-1 win over Salem on Friday in the opener for both schools.

Izzy Blazer, Kylie Holmes and Bella Thompson had goals for the winners. Thompson and Julia Narbey added assists. Cheyenne Chuck had four saves in goal.

It was United’s first win over Salem since 2023. It has been the season opener for both schools since 2021.

Ava Lee had Salem’s lone goal.

Salem is at Southeast on Monday. United will host Bristol on Wednesday.

SALEM EDGES UNITED

HANOVERTON -- Salem’s boys soccer team was on the ball in a 2-1 win over United on Friday.

Ronin Sutter and Maxwell Zacharias scored for the Quakers.

Salem will host Canfield on Tuesday.

United hosts Bristol on Monday.

WARRIORS CRUISE

BELOIT -- West Branch’s boys soccer team is slated to be one of the top teams in Mahoning County this season and the Warriors got off to a great start by topping Girard 8-1 on Friday.

The Warriors scored four in the first half and four in the second half. Girard’s goal came in the first half.

West Branch will be at Boardman on Aug. 25.

MINERVA BOYS BLANKED

DOVER -- Minerva’s boys soccer team suffered a 7-0 loss to Dover in the season opener on Friday.

Minerva is at Canton Central on Tuesday.
