Quakers get the best of Aviators

SALEM -- Salem opened its boys golf season with a 185-196 victory over Alliance on Monday at Salem Hills.
Donald Blackburn earned medalist honors with a 41 to lead the Quakers. Gabe Leek added a 45, Eli James shot 49 and Caden Arcuri carded a 50.
Alliance was led by Jaymes Smith with a 42. Ethan Jackson followed with a 48, while Brock Runion, Hudson Woods and Charles Ekey each shot 53.
The Quakers will host Minerva today at Salem Hills.
REBELS FALL AT HOME
CALCUTTA -- Southeast defeated Crestview 152-171 in a boys golf match Monday at Beaver Creek Meadows.
Grant Snyder led Crestview with a 39. Derek Duvall and Dominic Dillon each shot 42, while Landon Hildreth and David Smith both carded 48.
Southeast was paced by medalist Cole Bruno with a 35. Owen Dombroski added a 36, Ethan Shodd shot 40, and Alex Peelish and Logan Shodd each finished with 41.
Crestview will host Liberty on Thursday at Beaver Creek Meadows.
LIONS ROAR IN ZOAR
ZOAR -- The Minerva girls golf team set another school record and won its second tournament of the season Monday.
The Lions shot an 18-hole score of 329 to top the Garaway Invitational at Zoar Golf Course. It broke their previous school mark by four strokes.
Wooster was second in the 14-team tournament with a 378. Marlington was fourth with a 398 and Carrollton was seventh with a 435.
Minerva junior Peyton Beaumariage won her second tournament of the season with a 72, three shots ahead of Ridgewood junior Brynn Harstine. Minerva sophomore Every Sell was third with a 79.
Also for Minerva, sophomore Savanna Barley was eighth tie an 86 and senior Delaney Sell followed with a 92.
Minerva returns to Zoar Golf Course today for the Tri-County Pre-Season Tournament.
GOLFERS PLAY IN WARREN
WARREN -- West Branch’s boys golf team finished 16th out of 23 teams on Monday at the Warren JFK Invitational at the Trumbull Country Club.
The Warriors shot 371 as a team.
For the Warriors, Ashton Clay had an 88, Karson Fuson 89, Bennett Biggs 97 and Dylan Huntsman 97.
Beaver Local’s boys team took eighth. Beaver Local freshman Eli Stewart took second overall.
Scores were not available for the Beavers.
