The area will be well-represented in OVAC soccer championship finals across the region on Saturday.
Beaver Local’s boys and girls soccer teams, Oak Glen’s boys, Columbiana’s boys and United’s girls will all compete for titles in their respective classifications.
Beaver Local’s boys come into their Class 5A final at 10-0-1 and will take on Wheeling Park (10-0-2) at 12:30 p.m. at St. Clairsville High School. Kaden Mays leads the top-seeded Beaver Local offense that has scored 77 goals this season with 32 goals and 10 assists. Wheeling Park was a 2-0 winner over Steubenville in last year’s class 4A final. Beaver Local finished second in Class 4A last season.
Beaver Local’s girls, also a top seed in Class 5A, will take on No. 2 seed University at 10 a.m. at St. Clairsville High School. The Beavers, who won the Class 4A title last season, are 9-1 this campaign after advancing to the state semifinals in 2025. University, based in Morgantown, is 10-2. Beaver Local is led by stellar junior Peyton Dunn who has 26 goals and seven assists. Sophomore Leah Stewart is also a threat with 15 goals and 17 assists.
In Class 4A, No. 4 seed Oak Glen upset top seed Union Local 3-2 on Tuesday to advance to the final. The Golden Bears, which did not have a boys soccer team five seasons ago due to low numbers, are 6-4. They will take on No. 2 seed St. Clairsville (7-4) at 12:30 p.m. at Weir High’s Jimmy Carey Stadium. Jordan Tomsic leads the Golden Bears with 11 goals and three assists. Chase Hartung, who also plays football, has seven goals and six assists.
After a 1-0 win with Geoffrey Malcolmson scoring in the final minute against Steubenville Central in the semifinal, Columbiana’s boys team finds itself in its first OVAC Class 1A-3A final.
The second-seeded Clippers (8-3-1) will play top-seed Wheeling Central (9-1-2) at 12:30 p.m. at Wheeling Island Stadium. Central is the defending class champion. The Clippers are led by senior Rocco Mediate who has 22 goals and four assists on the season.
United’s girls team will play in its first OVAC soccer final when it faces top-seed Wheeling Central at 10 a.m. at Wheeling Island Stadium in the Class 1A-3A final. The Golden Eagles (9-2-1) arrived in the final by beating Columbiana on penalty kicks on Monday. Central, who beat United 10-0 in the OVAC tournament last season, is 13-1. The Golden Eagle girls are led by junior Elli Powers’ 18 goals and five assists.
