Clippers extend league streak against Eagles

COLUMBIANA -- The Columbiana volleyball team held off United to extend its Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference winning streak to 33 matches Tuesday.

The Clippers posted a 25-22, 25-15, 20-25, 21-25, 15-5 victory as they make a run at a third straight league title.

Columbiana -- which scored the first six points in the deciding fifth game to take control -- is 7-0 overall and 5-0 in league play. East Palestine is also unbeaten in the EAOC at 3-0.

United had its four-match winning streak snapped to fall to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the EOAC. The Eagles beat the Clippers in two of the games, the first ones Columbiana has dropped this season. United had a 13-7 lead in the first game before Columbiana rallied.

Addison Dangler and Landry Smith combined for 32 timely kills to power the Clippers.

Dangler totaled 17 kills, four blocks, three points and three digs and Smith had 15 kills, three blocks, six points and three digs. Eva Waller had 17 points, 42 assists and 11 digs; Keagan Pruitt nine kills, 12 points, four aces and six digs; Ava Marks 10 points, two aces, six kills and 22 assists; Kaydence Hamner six kills; and Lily Jackson 13 digs.

Topping United were Maelee Smith with 11 kills and two aces and Sophie Battagliani with 10 digs.

Columbiana also won the junior varsity match, 25-11, 25-21, to remain unbeaten.

Brily Schmidt had 12 points, six aces and three assists for the Clippers. Annabelle Church had four points and four kills, Sylvia Rapp four kills and seven digs and Adelaide Garrett five digs and three assists.

For the Eagles, Gracelyn Simmons had six points and two aces and Adrianna Zane three points and two aces.

Columbiana entertains Jackson-Milton today, while United hosts East Palestine on Thursday.

SOUTHERN 3, LISBON 0

LISBON -- Southern defeated Lisbon, 25-18, 26-24, 25-16, Tuesday in volleyball action.

The Indians improve to 2-4 overall and 2-2 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.

Katie Kellogg had eight points and 10 kills and Kalayah Crute seven points, 10 kills and three blocks to lead the Indians. Kiah Sloan had eight kills and three blocks, Addy Martin 14 digs, Maddy Tsesmilles seven digs, Eliana Forbes 16 assists and Delaney Beadnell 15 assists.

For Lisbon, Alayna Householder and Addison Anderson had seven kills each. Gionna Lenigar had four kills and two blocks with six points. Lilly Lipply added five kills and a block. Aria Reckner and Hannah Davis had six digs each. Ariel Smith had seven digs and six points. Bridget Newbold had 18 assists.

For Lisbon’s jayvees, Gracyn Owens had seven kills, 10 aces and eight assists. Ella Cochran had five kills and six assists. Carrie Hager and Emmy Haynes had three kills each. Johanna Ford had 13 digs.

Both teams play tonight. Southern hosts East Palestine at 5:30 p.m. in the resumption of a match suspended due to a power outage after East Palestine won the first game. Lisbon hosts Lowellville.

EAST PALESTINE 3, WELLSVILLE 1

EAST PALESTINE -- East Palestine defeated Wellsville 25-22, 17-25, 25-16, 25-18 on Tuesday.

The 7-2 Bulldogs remain tied for first in the EOAC with a 3-0 league mark. Destiney Burtyk had 15 kills and 20 digs for the Bulldogs. Kennedy Andre added 27 assists, five kills and 10 digs. Violet Glavan had six kills, four blocks, five digs and 13 points. Marley Blythe added five kills, 12 digs and 11 points. Jacklyn Ogle had 14 digs. East Palestine will finish its suspended match at Southern today.

Madie Drysdale led Wellsville (1-6, 0-4) with 10 kills, nine digs, four aces and eight blocks. Aleena Owens added eight kills, seven digs, four assists, three aces and three blocks.

Kenzie Bosco had four kills and 10 digs, while Jonnah Sears finished with 13 assists, 11 digs, four aces and one kill. Ella Betz recorded 24 digs and three aces. Gabby Carr had four digs, two aces and two blocks, while Irelyn Roberts added two blocks.

CRESTVIEW 3, BROOKFIELD 0

COLUMBIANA -- Crestview tallied a 25-16, 25-16, 25-18 win over Brookfield on Tuesday.

The Rebels are 4-1 and 3-0 in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Gray Division.

Bella Ciapala had 11 kills for the winners. Sarah Hively added eight kills and two blocks. Sophia Noling had seven kills, four aces and six digs. Phiatra Bradley had seven kills, while Madi Keyser had seven kills and a block. Kerrigan Miller had 14 digs and two aces. Addison Finch had 17 assists. Addison Wendell had 12 assists and 11 digs.

Crestview won the jayvee match, 25-20, 25-13. Mave Hasson had two aces and four kills. Claire Crable had six aces, 10 points and three assists.

Crestview is at McDonald today.
