Lions roar into district

CAMBRIDGE -- Minerva’s girls golf team won the Div. I sectional tournament on Monday at Cambridge Country County.

The Lions shot 342 as a team with Peyton Beaumariage carding a 79, Emery Sell 82, Delaney Sell 90 and Savanna Bartley 91. John Glenn (345) and Tai-Valley (394) were the other district qualifying teams.

Beaver Local shot 401 as a team but had two individual district qualifiers in McKenzie Ash (90) and Brenna Jones (98). The other individual qualifier was Dover’s Tori Griesen (85).

The Div. I district tournament is set for Monday at Crystal Springs Golf Club in Hopewell. One district team and one individual not on a qualifying team will advance to the Div. I state tournament on Oct. 12-13 at NCR Country Club in Kettering.

DIV. II BOYS POSTPONED

CADIZ -- The Div. II boys sectional tournament set for Monday at Cadiz Country Club was postponed due to rain. The tournament will be held on Thursday.

Beaver Local and East Liverpool are among the 14 teams in the tournament.

Four teams and four individual qualifiers not on a district qualifying team will move on to the district tournament on Monday at Eagle Sticks Golf Club in Zanesville.

Columbiana 146, Austintown Fitch 157

COLUMBIANA -- Columbiana’s boys soccer team completed a perfect 19-0 season with a 146-157 victory over Austintown Fitch on Monday at Valley.

Nick Klindworth led the Clippers with a 35, followed by Trenton Hall with a 36, David Masters with a 37 and Troy Fry with a 38. Luke Struharik shot 41.

Austintown Fitch was led by Joey Wollet with a 36. Braden Sallee shot 38, Camryln Salee 40 and Logan Polish 43.

Columbiana will compete in the sectional tournament Thursday at Salem Hills.
