MVAC title goes through Crestview

COLUMBIANA -- Crestview’s volleyball team scored a key Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Gray Division win over over Garfield on Thursday.

Sophia Noling’s 15 kills helped the Rebels to the 25-17, 25-17, 25-21 win. Crestview is 9-1 and 6-0 in the league. Garfield fell to 5-3, 5-1.

Bella Ciapala had 12 kills and a block. Addison Wendell added 13 assists, five aces and seven digs. Kerrigan Miller had 18 digs and three aces. Addison Finch had three aces and five digs. Sarah Hively chipped in five kills and three blocks.

The Rebels won the jayvee portion, 25-11, 25-12. Mave Hasson had two aces and four kills for the 10-0 Rebels. Jewlnetta Bradley had three aces and five kills.

Crestview is at LaBrae on Tuesday.

COLUMBIANA 3, SOUTHERN 0

COLUMBIANA -- Columbiana’s volleyball team stayed in control of the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference lead with a 25-16, 25-11, 25-20 win over Southern on Thursday.

The Clippers are 10-0 and 7-0 in the EOAC.

Landry Smith had nine kills and five points for the Clippers. Addison Dangler added nine kills and five points. Eva Waller had 25 assists and eight points. Keagan Pruitt chipped in five aces, 15 points and four digs. Ava Marks had five kills and four digs. Lily Jackson had eight digs.

For Southern (4-8), Natalia Lopez had five points and seven kills. Katie Kellogg had six kills. Delaney Beadnell had 10 assists.

Columbiana won the jayvee match 25-23, 25-13. Sydney Schorejs had 10 points and five aces for the winners. Adelaide Garrett had 11 digs. Annabelle Church had nine kills and five assists. Briley Schmidt had nine assists and nine points.

Elianna Forbes had seven points for Southern.

Columbiana hosts Springfield Saturday. Southern hosts Bridgeport Saturday.

UNITED 3, VALLEY 0

YOUNGSTOWN -- United’s volleyball team made short work of Valley Christian in a 25-5, 25-8, 25-9 Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference win on Thursday.

For the Eagles (7-2, 6-1), Chloe Angelo had five aces, four kills and nine points. Brittany Miller had four digs and two kills.

United won the jayvee portion, 25-3, 25-10. Cara Baker had 12 assists, 12 aces and 15 points. Gwyndalen Haynes had eight points, four aces and two kills. Ella Humphrey had 11 points and five aces.

United is at Cardinal Mooney on Monday.

EAST PALESTINE 3, LISBON 0

LISBON -- East Palestine’s volleyball team defeated Lisbon 25-21, 25-22, 25-23 on Thursday.

Destiney Burtyk led East Palestine with 12 kills, 17 digs and three blocks. Marley Blythe added seven kills and 13 digs, while Kennedy Andre had 19 assists, eight digs and 11 points. Jacklyn Ogle recorded 11 digs and five points, and Madilyn Zimmerman added 11 digs.

Gionna Lenigar led Lisbon with six kills and two solo blocks Alayna Householder added six kills and five digs, while Addison Anderson had four kills, six digs and two aces. Bridget Newbold finished with 13 assists and eight digs. Aria Reckner added eight digs and Brooklynn Klein had seven.

East Palestine is 9-4 and 4-2 in the EOAC. Lisbon fell to 3-9 and 1-6 in the league.

East Palestine also won the junior varsity match 28-26, 25-18.

Aliviana Valingo had 12 points, four aces and eight kills. Aubrey Oltmann added 10 points and three digs, while Layla Gruber had 10 assists and two kills.

For Lisbon, Gracyn Owens had seven points, three aces, five kills and 15 assists. Emmy Haynes added four kills, Carrie Hager had five kills and a block, and Sydney Tremmel had three kills. Johanna Ford and Kylyn Boyd combined for 12 digs defensively, while Lillian Tenzek added four digs.

Lisbon hosts Carrollton on Monday. East Palestine hosts Valley Christian on Tuesday.

MARLINGTON 3, WEST BRANCH 1

BELOIT -- West Branch’s volleyball team was handed its first Eastern Buckeye Conference loss of the season with a 3-1 defeat against Marlington.

West Branch falls to 10-4 and 5-1 in the league.

Marlington is 4-6 and 4-2.

West Branch is at Minerva on Tuesday.

MINERVA 3, SALEM 0

MINERVA -- Salem lost its third straight match in straight sets to Minerva on Thursday.

Salem is 9-4 and 4-2 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference. Minerva is 4-6 and 2-3.
